Great pics, Outrider.

Pards, is it possible to get a western novel published nowadays or is the genre as dead as mutton?

Which publishing houses, if any, publish them?

My first novel, Legends was published in 2005, and Cavanaugh: The Last bounty was two years later.

Despite good reviews and a movie company showing interest (and then losing interest), Legends hasn't passed the 2,000 mark yet and Cavanaugh is just over 300.  At less than $3.00 per book royalty, I haven't even made expenses.

I'm sure there are some good novels out there (published and unpublished), but if you re looking to make any money you'd be better off collecting aluminum can and recycling them.

It is, however, mighty satisfying to get folks telling you they've read your yarns.

Forty Rod I was thinking of a book on my 7 operations in the last year. It is a funny book. It will keep you in stitches.  ;D ;D Now to the serious side . Thanks for telling about the books you wrote. I will have to order them. Who is the publisher? Thanks KT
Cheer up things could be worse, sure enough I cheered up and they got worse.

Wow, Outrider. Those photos are great. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Amazon will allow you to self-publish through Createspace.com (their subsidiary). It costs nothing and printing is on demand only, no pre-printed books someone has to pay for. Your book will end up on the Amazon book list, available through Amazon.com. I did it for a dowsing manual I wrote and with a narrow market for that, it still sells enough to net a small royalty check eath month. Here's a link: https://www.createspace.com/

The black mag holder in the middle is the latest in an attempt to perfect a unit that is reproducible without too much hassle. I would like to have one with snaps on the bottom, but I don't like the length required. It's on a 2 ½ inch belt

I think I'm going to make a couple with less up and down length to see how that works. Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks, JD

I think you have these holders nailed, JD. You could make ones with snaps without too much additional length but I do have to admit that I like them sewn or riveted myself. Your two molded ones are great. Shorter would be fine, but you may not gain much in performance. As long as you can get them out quickly, just drop the empty and load a full one. Pick up the spent one(s) after the stage is completed. Just keep a couple earmarked for drop-free shooting. Very nice work, pard.

For rigs that are more  flashy, you could use the decorative nickel silver Chicago screws.

Thanks for the feedback Marshall, I appreciate it. Making them shorter is about looks more than anything else. As far as snaps go, I'm looking for ways to get one on a belt with a sewn billet. I could do it with Chicago screws as well, which would be more secure, but not as quick or easy. Just thinking out loud.

I could do that Dr. Bob, but most of the guys I know that shoot Wild Bunch aren't really Bling guys. Marshall Will's idea of fancy Chicago screws is a good one, but I will need to find some longer ones than Tandy sells.

JD, I just got some plain Chrome chicago screws from Tandy that are 1/2" long.  Part number 1293-02

PS, they all look great.

Thanks AC, that's what I used. Marshall Will was suggesting the fancier Chicago screw tops. The ones Tandy sells aren't long enough for this proget. I haven't looked for longer ones anywhere else, but I would guess they are out there.

JD, I've got a bunch of them both nickle and brass, 1/4 and 3/8 in. More than I'll ever use up. If you want some let me know what and they're yours!

Ned, I really appreciate it, and I'd be happy to buy them from you rather than Tandy. Do the fancy ones come any longer, like 1/2 inch?

JD, nice work on them pouches!
For going over the billet on the belt, and keeping the overall length down, what about putting a belt loop that can be unsnapped?
I am thinking that the same thing you have made now, but sew the edges so its a stiff one piece, and add a wide belt loop sewn at the top and with a snap at the bottom.

Or instead of sewing 2 pieces together for stiffness, use a thicker piece of leather...

I really like what you are doing now though. They look great!

Very cool pictures Outrider

WC, that's another great piece I hope to see in person. At this point my trip south is on, so I  will likely show up at your shop sometime Firday the 24th. I'll leave Yosemite pretty early in the morning for LA. Since I don't know when you might read this I'll be giving you a call to make sure the date & time is ok to show up and hang around.

CALIFORNIA TRAVEL QUESTION

It's been a long time since I've been anywhere in northern or central Calif. I'm going to be driving from Yosemite down to LA, to WC's shop in Reseda.

The maps are advising me to drop down to Fresno, hit 99 and take it to Bakersfield, then stay on 99 until it intersects with I-5. That sounds like the slow way, since I remember 99 having a bunch of lights and running through small towns.

so I'm wondering if some of you in that general neck of the woods can advise a different route, like cutting over to I-5 somewhere around Fresno or below?

Thanks, JD
