Bought this one around 1980. Street raced it for a couple years, yanked out the drive train and put it in the 2dr wgn and sold the body.

Aah, WC. The 56 is my favorite of the tri chevys. We had a 56 BelAir 4 dr sitting on our place when my parents bought it, and I spent many hours in it just playing around. Actually hooked up a battery once, and the radio came on to an oldies station.
Its gone now tho.
That wagon is just too cool.

JD, my Galaxie is in the same boat as yours. I am in the process of putting in new weatherstripping, and then working on the interior. Thats an expensive job for mine.

I bought the 51 for my son and I to work on, and we did for a while, but he lost interest. So many of the young men these days don't have an interest in cars like my friends and I did through the 60's. Now it's computers!

My first car was a 2 door 57 Bel Aire. Unfortunately I rolled it. I had a 57 Chevy pickup up, short step side with the big rear window when I got married in '77. I had a 72 El Camino just before buying the 51, but sold it because it bothered my back so much when I drove it. It was a sweet looking rig.

I'm embarrased to admit to how many cars and bikes I've owned over the years! Funny thing, I remember every one of them.

WC, I've been a Chevy guy from the beginning, so I really do appreciate your rigs.

Those are some very fine cars, pards. I'm going to have to find the old photos and start digging. Dalton, that Torino is a real jewell. JD, I like that 51 Chevy. Cool stuff. WC, I also like the 56 over the 55 and 57. I never had any of them, but I did have a 54 Chevy "Two-Ten" Sedan. I yanked the powerglide transmission and put a standard with a floor shift in it. I also replaced the engine with a truck engine that had been bored out. It was a fun car.

Howdy,

Somehow, I missed 5 pages of this thread while I was in Georgia.  Wish I had pictures of my first car.  It was a 57 Ford 2 door hard top with the 302 [?] V8.  Light blue top & bottom and white in the middle.  Man, oh man I have wished that I still had it!

My first car was a 58' Buick Special, still had the fins that Chevy droped that year.  Then the next car I owned was a 64 Chevy Impala SS327.   Loved that car.  Then a 68 AMX  390 that I raced in Calif.  Last great car I owned was a 68 Chevy 396 El Camino.  After that I owned various plane jane cars, became the responsible one..........These are pics that I found on the web, the AMX is an exact copy of mine color and everything and the 64 SS mine was silver with a navy blue fake convertable top.

An old customer of mine was in the leather business. He cleaned out his workshop and among the things he gave to me was a Leather thickness or weight measuring device. I have no idea how old it is but it still works pretty good. Attached are a few pictures.

Very Cool Johnny!

Just a little bit of clean up and what a classic tool of the trade.

That's a really cool thickness measuring tool. I've never seen one before. What a find.

Nice collection, GB. It's fun to see them so similar and yet so different from each other.

Thanks for the pics, pards.

Cleaning out the closet in my shop I came accrss a box I forgot I had. Full of rolled posters.
