General John Sedgwick, Union Commander, d. 1864
Killed in battle during US Civil War.

How about it got any other good ones?

Capt. Montgomery Little

Shamrock,  There were 5 CW Generals killed immediately after saying almost these same words. 3 were Union and two Conferate. One of the Confederate Generals was an ancester of mine, Brig. Gen. Henry Lewis Little. During the Battle of Iuka, MS, he was conferring with Genls. Van Dorn and Price when a Sgt. told them to move back as the battle was getting close. He stood up in the saddle and said ,"There isn't a Yankee bullet that can get this far." or something like that and immediately after his speech, a bullet penetrated his forehead, killing him instantly.  Price and Van Dorn were, "visably shaken".  He had been a personal friend and neighbor of Price, both with hemp plantations along the Mississippi just outside of St. Louis.

Are Ya going to the Muster next week?

Just had to add,

Among the military I had the pleasure to serve with, the most common last words were either Oops! or OH SH___ .....
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

According to Gen'l Sandy Forsyth, who wrote of his experiences during the Beecher Island Battle, his "chief scout", Sharp Grover, a former Confederate General and frontiersman in his own right, said, "Heavens, General! Look at all the Indians!"  Now the book was written and printed around the Turn of the 20th Century, and the printed word was far more genteel than nowadays! Does anyone honestly think that Sharp Grover put it in just those words?  ::) ;D  What he probably said was, "[censored]!"   ;)
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Yeah, and I've always believed that McAuliffe said "Nuts!" when the Germans demanded his surrender at Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, too.
People like me are the reason people like you have the right to bitch about people like me.

Drydock

Actualy, "Nuts" is very well documented.  In addition, Mcauliffe had it put in writing and delivered to the German General besieging Bastogne, and that communique is preserved at West Point.  Its also well documented that the Junior officer delivering the message told his opposites "And if you don't know what that means, its the same as "Go to Hell!""

Actually, as he led the troops down into the Greasy Grass, Custer's famous last words were, "We have them, boys!"

These aren't last words, 'cause MacAuliffe survived the incident.

Pitspitr

At the Battle of Slim Buttes one of the 9th Infantry boys told a scout named White to get down or one of the indians would get him. White said, "Them indians can't get me." At that moment a bullet him him in the heart, he looked down at his chest and said, "Oh, they can too." and fell over dead.

I have talked with two people who were actually there when he was told what the German ultimatum was read. "Nuts" was a word he used every now and then. His staff discussed how to react, and I think it was COL Chet Hansen who suggested the first reaction.

Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... [Vizzini stops suddenly and falls dead]

I can't really vouch for this one, but one of my all-time favorite "Last Words" were said to have been spoken by none other than George Armstrong Custer.

A moment before Custer led his contingent of the Seventh Cavalry down into the Greasy Grass and history, he was reported to have shouted, "We have them, boys!"

Frenchie,  I cannot believe you even watched that movie let alone posted a quote from it here. I had to sit through it a number of time because my daughter thinks it is great though sappy.

Daniel,  My Grandpa used to say that Custer's last words were, "Last time I buy one of those D****d Arrow shirts!"
