Well, I started my first rig, will be two holsters and gun belt.  It will be strong side left and right no cross draw.  Not going for a period look but more of a "B" movie type.  It should take me a few weekends or so.  (if i'm lucky)

Looks like you have allready a good start! What color are you going for? I don't think it will take you as long as you think!! You got the leather on the brian, so things will move right along.

Its an oiled (EVOO) finish, am going darker, but need to put in the hot AZ sun before the next two coats.

You have a nice start on your holster, I don't know if I took this wrong or not, but you don't want to oil your leather before you wet mold your gun to the holster, unless your not going to wet mold it, your oiling should be done after you have done your wet molding, I may have taken this the wrong way, if I did don't worry about it. You have done a good job on you stamping and the cutting out of your leather, this should be a right nice looking rig, I'll look forward to seeing it finished. ::)

Well TW, this is where inexperience comes screaming through, I had no idea.  But I am sure I can still wet mold as I have not put any oil on the inside rough surface, right?

Well C, and that case I'm glad I said something, just stay away from the oil until you are ready to finish your leather. depending on how much oil is in the leather, if there isn't much, you should be ok, but it might not stay as firm as it would have, but it should be OK, we all have these things happen when first starting out, you're doing a great job, keep it up. ;) :D

Thats why I started with the left holster, so if it doesn't work out I can use what I learn to do a better job on the right.

Thanks for letting me know before I got too far.  So far I only have two coats of light oil.  I might be OK.

Howdy Cattleman,

Great start!

Now you know once you start making holsters you will get hooked. We look forward to seeing the finished product.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Slowhand Bob

A really good looking start, will you add a concho to the loop?  Yall have me wanting to start a new set for myself!

JD Alan

That's a great start Cattleman. You won't have any problem wet molding. I've found that to be the easiest part of all.

Got it sewn together, I was worried my gun wouldn't fit but does.

Hey Cattleman, thanks for the stamp info. I will file that away for a future project.
The real fancy rigs with alot of carving are beautiful but, I really like the simple (classy to me ) borders and good clean lines. Yours is looking great.
