Howdy all. Was just wondering if the rules for GAF Wild Bunch were pretty much the same as SASS WB rules??
Lever action .40 or above, shotgun, and 1911?
Or is there another version being done?
Thanks!

WB rules are pretty much set by the match directors, however, while I'm not sure about the lever action requirements, last years WB match allowed the use of rifles like the 1903 Springfield and Krag.  I'm using a Krag myself, along with my 1911 and an 1887 Lever shotgun.

And Dalton, I know you've got a 1903 . . .

Dalton,
I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you. Work's been kicking my butt, that and the morning I was going to answer your PM I got a virus >:(. (Hanging is too good for virus programers)

Yes we have a class for lever guns and a class for bolts.

Phew. Was starting to think that I was gonna have to start loading for the 1903. I have only gotten it out to shoot once, and that was a few weeks ago. Its real nice with my 165 gr hunting loads, but I havent a thing for it to eat as far as cast lead yet.
My 73 will be making the trip for this go around.

I understand ya there Pitspitr. Those virus people would make great backstops on a paper target range. I also understand you on the work thing. Its kicking my butt too, and I found out I am on call the weekend of Muster. Grrrr. Hopefully can get out of it.

Thanks for the info Sirs.

Dalton Masterson:

Contact Bat Masterson of the Sand Creek Raiders, CO.  They have a nice set of rules (on digits) for WB matches.  I have read them & I like them better'n some others that I've have checked out.

Howdy MG.
Sand Creeks rules are what I wanted to incorporate at our range in GI, but it was decided it would be more fair to adopt the SASS guidelines instead, albeit they limit the firearms used.
I would love to be able to shoot my 1907 Savage in a match, although I would have to find another mag. Just a neat little space gun for the time it was made. That and I think a wider base of guns allowable would get more people in to play.
Thanks!

DM, I would like to shoot my 1917 Eddystone, but I don't have any lead ammo either. I've got some for my Trapdoor, but only factory ammo for my Krag.  I'm not a reloader, so I have a big problem.

Aah, yes, TL. That can be a problem if you dont reload. If I had some loaded up, I would be happy to bring some along to the muster for you, but alas, I dont. The only milsurp stuff I have reloaded is based on deer hunting, so generally has a little too much pop and copper for steel targets.
But, I am gonna remedy this one of these days hopefully, with a 30-40 or 45-70.

let me do some checking guys.  I might be able to bring some extra lead .30-06 rounds to the muster.  I have to see if we have eny extra bulletts and brass.  about 15 grains trailboss and 165gr lead bullets  worked well last year in my 1917 but dropped pretty fast at the longer range targets.  I'll see what I can do.

15 grains of Trailboss is a pretty hot load for us,  I only use 9 grains (2cc)for 1100 fps with a 200 grainer per   http://www.surplusrifle.com/articles2008/trailbosskiss/index.asp

I have some lead 30-30 bullets I just picked up at Cabelas. They should work shouldnt they? I think they are 165 gr, rnfp if I remember right without going out to the shop.
Will have to research a load for that and see if I can come up with something.

They should work fine, I tried some in my Krag, and they work fine there with 8 gr unique, will try the same in my '03.

fMaybe it was 12 grains in the .30-06, but I know we worked up from 9 until it stopped keyholing at 50 yards.
Scruffy used about 9gr TB with the same bullet in his .30-30 at last years muster (malitia class) and it was real accurate and easy on the shoulder.
Hodgdon has said you can't get to much TB in a .30-06 case.  Different calibers and guns would need different amounts.  But TB is very bulky and keeps the preassures down.

Maybe would need a bit more unique in the '06, than a krag case, because of the bigger case. I know Drydock is getting good results with Trailboss in his Krag, but I don't have any, and niether does my local reloading store, so Unique it is for me.

I am trying to decide whether I'll have time to cast bullets and then load .45ACP for the Wild Bunch match - so I'm considering using one of my WWI-vintage .455 revolvers instead  ....... but have some questions -

- revolvers are allowed, I presume?

- is there a separate class for revolvers?

- alternatively, are speed-loaders allowed, to make revolvers a bit more competitive?

As yet another possible alternative ..... would someone be able, and willing, to purchase (or load) some cast-bullet .45ACP cartridges down there for me to use?  (I would pay the entire cost, of course ....)

Rattlesnake Jack, I would be happy to give you some 45 ACP ammo. I am loading a 200 gr rnfp if that makes any difference.

Same here, 230 rn lead. will probably have a few extra. Of course, we'd enjoy seeing the .455 in action, too.

well heck, now I feel a little wimpy! :-[ ;)
