David: real nice, in fact outstanding! it forced me to spend some quality time with Dorsey and McPheeter's American Military Saddles .

I have all the stuff to do early Indian Wars but my poor Morgan has yet to get dressed up. If the my economy ever turns around I'm going to place that order for a 59 McClellan. While I'd like to try CW cav but the 5th Michigan practice site is a good 3 hour drive for me. Until then I have to stick to that great FARB event, the CMSA.

I do portray a 72-74 commercial hide hunter. Below is my "mexican saddle", while certainly not to your standards it turned out OK, somewhat inspired by the tommy lee jones "Missing" saddle I guess I avoided his use of hammered brass cinch rings because I can not document their use in the 19th century (Beatie says they were not around until the early 20th century), not having enough cash to buy silver conchos I fell upon the idea of using Mexican reales, I bought them on ebay - all dated prior to 1870. The horn suffers nickel silver rather than the real deal though.

I bought a headstall from you and decorated it with early American silver dollars. I have a friend who can take coins and make conchos. If you are not concerned about condition and mint stamping it is not that expensive to purchase coins.

I found the bent would stirrups on ebay for $5.

I live in the same town as Jeff Daniels and am still waiting for him to make a western in Michigan so that my horse and I can get ourselves immortalized on the big screen just once!  ;D, He did a western play at his "Purple Rose" theater here and we provided the chuck wagon and cooking, should have seen the faces when folks were told exactly what the breaded rocky mountain oysters they were eating were :o
