Hi,

I have been asked to join with a black powder group in the future, and was thinking that a pair of fixed sight stainless steel Old Army pistols would just fill the bill nicely.

Then I heard somewhere that they are no longer made.

Say it isn't so!

And, barring that, where would I find a pair of 5.5 inch barrelled models?

Well Met, Slim,

Like an idiot I let the ones Doc Neely was selling get away ... they would have been perfect ... so now begins the search ... we have a gun show in about two weeks here ... and I believe since it is black powder it can be sold at the show .... I'll also check with the local SASS gun shop....

Wishing you and your lovely spouse the best of Labor Days ....

.
Recently bought two NIB consecutive numbered SS 7.5" fixed ROAs from Gunbroker.  <Happy Dance>

They're going into the safe for the immediate future.  I'm not ready to convert to the Dark Side just yet.  Bought them because the ROAs are acknowledged as the very best in black powder pistols, they're not being made anymore, they're not getting any cheaper, and they will likely appreciate in value far faster than the money sitting in my money market accounts.

And I wanna them!!!

Later, I noticed ROAs were a bit cheaper on AuctionArms.com.  Plus you support the NRA.  Oil well.  Too late to smart.

Charlie Foxtrot,

Thanks for the tip ... I will check auction arms  as soon as I get off this web.

Congratulations on your new Rugers .... I have had friends (one who uses his as a backup for his Hawken when he hunts bear!  I think anything less than an M79 Grenade Launcher against bear is shear tomfoolery!). Anyway, thy loved theirs and had nothing but good comments about them.

The KBP-5FI (Stainless, 5 1/2" barrel, fixed sights) was mad for just a few years and is proving to be difficult to find a pair. Oh well, I guess I have to be happy to find one at a time and accept non-sequential guns ....

I am going out to meet the reenactors today, and have not bothered to pull money out until I am sure that this is a sure thing ... I will know better by the end of the day ....

Howdy!
Try this guy on Rugerforum.  He might have some fixed sight ones left.

I just accepted an offer on two 5.5" stainless fixed sight ROAs.

And am buying a slim jim holster from Will Ghormley...

So now I just have to find a powder horn/flask and bullet pouch to complete the outfit....

Any suggestions, offers?

Hi,

I have just taken posession of two ROAs, 5.5, SS, Fixed Sights.

The revolvers are in as new condition ... and the previous owner had had gunsmithed and installed extended 'bullet rammers' so that he could fire 20 gr charges.

He also had installed faux stag grips that provide alot more traction and control to the pistols ... and has that original faux ivory grips as well.

And the holsters that Will Ghormley made for my Schofields fit them as if they had been made for them!

The pistols came with a flight mechanic's bag full of flasks, measuring tubes for the flasks, a cap snail, a plastic fishing lure style case with bullets and wad, and a 2/3rds full bottle of Hogdon Triple 7.

The cry for help is that I have never owned or fired a blackpowder weapon.

I would love to have a blackpowder afficianado 1.) come to the house and help me sort things out, and 2.) join me at Rancho Cordova Range (Bring your guns as well!) and kind of watch me while I fire the things the first time ...

BTW, I live in East Sacramento....

If this sounds like it could be fun, my email address is on my profile ... send me a note!

I am humbled at the gift I was given ... for at the price, it was a gift ......

Now, if I could just find someone with blackpowder experience in the Sacramento area who wanted to spend an afternoon at the firing range with me.... it would be complete!

I just don't want to fire the pistols until I have someone to watch me to insure that I am doing it right the first time ...

Although even the Ruger manual says that I cannot load enough black powder to harm the weapons ....
