Poncho, or Cole Bluesteele...

Do either of you fellas know of any buffalo farms/ranches in the area that would allow me to take some video? I like to take stock footage to keep in my archives.

2 places I can think of off hand:

1)  Fossil Rim Wildlife Preserve:  http://www.fossilrim.org/animals/bison2009.php

Thats a very large wildlife preserve about 30 minutes SW of Fort Worth (which means about 120 miles from our range).  Beautiful scenery out there:  lots of hills, bluffs, and canyons.

2)  Choctaw Preserve: http://www.choctaw-preserve.com/hunting.asp

That's a high dollar hunting preserve up near Sherman (about 60 miles from our range).  I don't know what their policy is on taking pictures, but it wouldn't hurt to call and check.  Lots of non-native game to look at there.

I'll ask around for any other options.

There is a farm just north of Wolfe City (between Wolfe City and Bailey) that has a few Bison. It is just someone's farm but they might let you shoot some footage of 'em.

Thanks fellas for the information, I was hoping for a large ranch that only supported buffalo.

Me and the Mrs. are heading to the Black Hills next year to do some gold panning and visit Sleeping Bear Butte.

I'll get some footage at Custer state park while I am there.

I received a few questions regarding this issue:

We will not be offering the "Cody-Dixon" shooting class at the SW Regional Match.

Since this is a Regional NCOWS match, we are only honoring approved NCOWS shooting classes.

We reserve the "Cody-Dixon" option for our monthly matches.

For those that enjoy big rifles and long distances, we will offer a mid-range side match at The SW Regional.

For the sake of all ya'll, I will at this point offer my translation and etymological services:

"You guys" is an old Yankee expression that's still in common use. It means "ya'll." It was first officially documented in 1837 when John Calhoun, the Vice-President under Andrew Jackson, sent a PM via his iCourier to Texas' then-President Sam Houston. According to sources within the Texas State Archives, the message simply said, "Hey Sammie, can we join you guys?" Unfortunately much of the correspondence that followed was lost during the Texas Archive War, (that war can be researched on Wikipedia), but the net result was that Texas eventually annexed the United States to serve as a buffer between the glorious golden warmth of Texas and the frigid wastes of the Great White North (Canada).

Despite repeated attempts to make us talk funny (one well-known example: the War of Northern Aggression) most of us Texans have remained true to our Sacred & Holy Heritage and defied the adoption of that vulgar expression. In other words, we still say "ya'll."

Sadly, despite all of our best attempts there are still many non-Texans, and they simply can't always help themselves... Bless their hearts. We will learn 'em how to talk right sooner or later.

Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad! Remember Superbowl 2!

Gents,

As you well know, western action shooting is made of folks from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences.

kflach's age is unknown to me, but he is new to our sport.   The 2 times I've shot with him, he is a respectible man, safe with his guns, and helpful on the range.  Those facts secure him a good reputation in my eyes.

I am one of the youngest folks at our club (I'm 40).  I do hope that my age and life experiences do not discredit me in other shooter's eyes.

I was 9 years old when Superbowl 2 was played. I didn't become a hardcore football fan until a few years later. However, I am of the opinion that A). The Cowboys are not America's team, they're our (Dallas's) team! B). Any 'superbowl' in which the Cowboys didn't play wasn't really a Superbowl, and wasn't right. And C). any Superbowl which the Cowboys played and didn't win wasn't right either. Therefore I say unto you, Remember all the injustice, whether it be the "Ice Bowl" (NFL Championship, 1967, Packers 21, Cowboys 17), Superbowl One, or last year's Superbowl!!

<Big Grin!>

[Obviously I wasn't at the Alamo or Goliad either, but I remember them!]

P.S. Texas Lawdog, I'm still hoping to see you at a Ten Horns match one of these days. We're having a great time, and it's well worth the drive from mid-cities. I'm still more than willing to drive if you'll PM me ahead of time.
;)
