Howdy Gents. On page 202 of the book there is a picture of a fast draw rig. I'm wondering what those two big round metal fasteners are the maker used to secure that piece of leather, or maybe it's the entire holster to the belt? I'm not planning to attempt a fast draw rig, I'm just curious about the methodology.

Thanks, JD

JD, the holster is fixed to the belt so it can't move at all. It's getting a long way from the Mexican loop but it's a well-made fast draw rig. Skeet

I assumed that was the purpose, but I'm wondering what they used to attach it. I've not seen anything like that close up, only in pictures. Thanks.

To me it appears to be a standard rivet attached to the larger silver disc. If you look closely at the one on the left you can see a little shadow from the stud end of the rivet deformed the silver disc just a bit during setting, a problem I have from time to time setting just regular rivets.

There's a lot of metal in that holster for rigidity. There's an interesting you tube video showing one in use. It's at:

He explains the construction of the rig also.

Thanks Skeet, that was entertaining. I still don't know exactly what they used, but I think I've seen enough that it's not something I would attempt to use to attach a holster to a belt. JD

This style fast draw rig was one of Alfonso Penada's invention's, and it kept the gun in just the right place at all times for a faster than fast draw, the two fasteners are either silver or nickel, and attach the holster and form to the main body of the gun belt, AlFonso did real well with this design, and his son Omar carries on the tradition. The holster and attached upper form are all steel lined. Here is the link to that rig.

Thanks 10 Wolves, I appreciate the Link. I've seen a couple of rigs where the holsters were attached to the belts in similiar fashion. Always lookin for more info! JD
