Anybody here know anything about Surf fishin poles?Went to a garage sale about a month ago with my cousin as they had some old boat oars he wanted. The next thing we know they were givin stuff away(movin). My cousin got a handfull of old wooden shotgun cleaning rods and they gave me a couple of very long bamboo surf poles.I have seen people use them but never have myself. They look hand made(?) with roping on the grips and a place to put the reels that look to me hand threaded on with the roping also.Real good condition.Any type of value in these? How the heck do ya get them from one place to another?I'd give them to someone that could use them..

here in Arkansas and Oklahoma, they are popular below the dams for catfishin,  tie a hook on with a leader below it and about 5 ounces of weight and throw it right up against the dam wall, big cats in there, over in Oklahoma, they also snag spoonbill catfish with em below the dams.

the poles are pretty high priced here, $ 130 to 150 will get you a nice one

good lookin rods,  they'd get that bait half way across the river looks like. all ya need is one of them winch lookin reels. and lots of heavy line.  ;)

the closer you can get that bait right up next to the dam wall, the more chance you got of gettin the big one.   ;D  according to a friend fo mine, he has 4 of em for this time of year,  he ties on an old spark plug to a leader off his hook,  it'll get down in the rocks and as soon as the fish bites and he sets the hook,  the spark plug will break off,  just tie on a new one for the next cast.

he's made a little rack for his little Ford pickup to carry them,  it holds the tips up higher than if they were just resting on the tailgate and keeps them out of the way of any cars or trucks pullin up behind him.

this time of year when we go to Ozark, we'll see several trucks running around with their long fishing poles,  as soon as they open the dam down there on the Arkansas river, the banks will be full with people  catfishing.

I've not done much noodling,  an uncle of mine had a big v shaped scar up his upper arm that he got noodling,  snapping turtle probably.  so if I couln't catch it on a line I just left it alone  ;D

I was up on the Grand River once back in the 70's and saw something that I've always remembered,  a kid about 7 or 8 years old noodlin along the rock back,  his dad was up on the bank,  he had a rope tied around the boy's waist and was holding on to it,  when the boy would go under and tug on the rope, the dad would pull him up with a big old catfish on the boys arm.  saw em catch a bunch of fish like that,

I'm not sure today but I would think he'd be arrested.

We've had several Californian's move here over the last few years,  said they were really happy to get away from California,  they said the property taxes had gone up the last few years and everything had just gotten out of control.
A coupla of family's that I know were really able to cash in on selling out there when the price was high.  I know one family who bought 750 acres and built 2 houses on it for what they got for a house in Southern California.
