Thank you.

Happy to help, but thank Abilene, he's the one who gave me the information.

I have been shooting Orginal and Clone 44 and 45 SAAs and Open Tops for 50 years, Iam no expert, and do not claim to be and I hope no one gets bent out of shape, and maybe it is because I like NCOWS as I do, but I can't understand why someone would spend a lot of money and time to dress like someone of the 1800s and put on leather gear of the same time  and then buy guns that were no where near the guns of the time, or ever chambered for the guns of the times. Iam talking about shooting a 45 LC. in an Open Top, and Rugers which never did and never will look like a 1873 Colt Single Action. Simply in my thoughts Open Tops are not built heavy enough to fire the 45 LC. for long. My advise is don't put anymore money in the gun, sell the 45 and buy a good 44 Colt.

Reno,
You may be right as far as the '71/'72 OT in .45 Colt. but, all OTs are not equal! I have a pair of 1st Mod. Dragoons with gated conversions from Kirst that have had a few thousand rounds through them.  The .45 Colt round is a walk in the park for these fine revolvers that always come home with the same specs. they had when when we left for the range. You may say well, they have much bigger frames than the '71/2 . Yes they do, but  their little brother always tags along and gets its workout as well and, was my carry for a long time. It's a '60 Army with a gated Kirst conversion as well! It jumps rather sharply when fired but, it comes home with its specs intact as well.
My loads hover around the 950 +/- fps with 250gr. slug.( that's why the '60 jumps so well!!).
I believe the bushing is the reason for the '71/2 limited longevity.
As far as folks spending their money the way they want too, I believe it's their business. I have over 700 bucks in each of the Dragoons (they are Uberties and were bought new and the conversions as well) and they are by far my favorite SAs ever!!

Mike, like I said I did not want to get people upset. Why the little jab about how people spend their money, I don't understand as I personaly do not care how you or anyone else spends your money, I only said I did not understand is all, and we were talking about 71/72 Open Tops not revolvers like yours. Iam sure your revolver is great, I just gave my opion about 71/72 Open Tops in 45 Colt.

The .45 Open Tops kind of appeal to me because I shoot and reload on a tight budget. If I can consolidate as many of my guns into one caliber, then that makes shooting much more doable. Thats my reasoning, and I'd be willing to bet that I'm not the only one. While I'd like to shoot guns in calibers that are closer to the original, I just don't have the money to do it.

I can see that I have done just what I did not want to do, and that is offend someone, I know and realize all of your points, and do understand. It is just that NCOWS is so strick on guns, gear and clothing, which I like, that I have forgot there are others out there, that either belong to SASS and other outfits that are not so strick, and can compete, or shoot and wear, about anything they want to come up with and that is their right and choice.

Not offended reno, just my take. I thought you meant open tops as a whole. As far as the jab at the money thing, I thought you meant that you couldn't understand spending the money. Now I see that you don't understand what they do. My apologies.

I certainly wasn't offended, I just felt the need to clarify. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to do a more authentic caliber, but it's kind of an issue of beggars and choosers, you know? Anyways, best wishes Reno.
