Slowhand Bob and Chuck Burrows,
Thanks again for your help and to all others who helped with their suggestions, as well.  The things that you told me guided me along and helped be very much in sorting out this riveting process in my mind.

The explanations of the various rivets and the ideas regarding sizing of the rivets, such as #9, #12, etc. was useful.  As a novice in leatherwork, many things that advanced hobiests and professionals take for granted are things I do not know.  I took a leatherworking class once, but it was long on assembling tacky trinkets and short on explanations and real work.

For instance, related to copper rivets, does anyone have a chart that crosses over the rivet size number to fractional inch widths of the head and shaft size of the rivet?  That would be very helpful to detail-oriented individuals.

Anyway, thank you again.  I am inspired enough by reading the CASCity Leatherworking Forum to get a few tools and supplies and take on a CAS project.  Almost certainly I'll be back asking more questions!

CDBII, ::) I wouldn't make too much out of the size, I personally would stay with the # 12 copper rivet, it's probably the most versatile of the rivet sizes, the # 14 is smaller and the stem can bend over much easier, I've used the #14, but now use only the #12, and for a larger project, I'll even use the #9, but for belts and small projects that would be over kill in IMO, the copper rivets come in different stem lengths, which is a big help when you need a longer length stem, looking at the picture you provided, I think the #12 would work just fine, just order or buy the right length to work for your needs.
