Just a kinda fun question, has anyone here 'named' their gun or did that tradition die with Davy Crockett at the Alamo? http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQY/is_1_50/ai_110470560/

Yes, I have an old Russian Mosin Nagant P27 that is named Norma, as thats the brand of ammo I could get for hunting when I got it. We also have a Blondie, an M44 M-N as well.
We also have Noisy Cricket, a small and cheap Rohm .22 revolver. I would be hard pressed to hit my foot with it, but its fun to shoot, and loud. We took the name from the Men In Black movie.

No pet names here....other than the infrequent use of profanity if'n a finger or such gets pinched or when a part breaks at a bad time.

I have names for mine:

  • Left and Right 1860 pair one
  • Left and Right 1860 backup pair
  • Left and Right 1860 pair three. Actually I don't have a left and right picked out for this pair since I'm not shooting them at this time.
  • .44 Cal 1866 Rifle
  • .44 Cal 1866 Carbine
  • Shotgun

Do you want to hear the names of my other pistol pairs, rifles and shotguns?

Wouldn't pet names - like ''Chester', 'Winnie', 'Rooger', 'Remmie', and other cutenesses ascribed to deadly weapons be an awful lot like twelve-year-old girls playing Barbie?

Just wondering...

LOL!

I don't know about the cute names, but maybe someone's named their Ruger Blackhawk "The Dark Overlord" or named their double-barreled shotgun "DeathDealer" - both which are names unlikely to be found in the Barbie universe.

Frenchie

My ArmiSport 1861 Springfield was named Charlene after Private Pyle's rifle in Full Metal Jacket and for a young lady I worked with. I called my Colt's Combat Commander John Moses for the genius who designed it. I haven't named any of the others.
Yours, &c.,

Silent Joe

Not original but I have the next names: Colt SA .22LR = Little Sam; Cot SAA .45LC = Big Sam; Sig Sauer Western Marshal .38/357 = Siegfried;  Husqvarna Single Shot rifle .22LR = Huskey and my Lever Action Uberti Winchester = Winnie. These are the names I used when my Wive ask with when I've shot.

Delmonico

The only gun I have that has a name is my H&R Single-shot 10 gauge with the 36 inch full choke barrel.  Used to use it years ago for late season pheasants on windy days.  A late friend named it "Ma Bell" cause it could reach out there and touch someone.

I'm appreciate that ya'll are posting these. My wife gives me a hard time because I name inanimate objects.

Jamie

St. George,
Aren't twelve year old girls supposed to play with Barbies?  This causes confusion as to your intent... are you mocking those who choose to name a beloved but inanimate object, or are you in fact suggesting that this should, in point of fact, be the norm?  I just hit this thread and was wondering...  ;D ;D By the way, my only named gun is a T/C Hawken target (blued furniture instead of brass, 30" round ball barrel, and a stock that has more figure in it than most Hollywood starlets.)  The name is Kate, because my wife's name is Kathy, and I wish she'd hunt with me, but doesn't, so heck, it reminds me of her, a blessing on those cold days afield.  In addition, it's never let me down in the field.  The only deer I've missed with it was one I had no business shooting at anyway, so the gun offered it's disapproval by missing the deer as it went by at Mach II.  By the way, my wife knows, and is unimpressed.

It's like anything else. Some things (and some people) just pick up nicknames.

I call my Remington, 700VS "Big Black" as it's a big black rifle with a big black scope.  I call my 1911 "Old reliable" and my .30 Cal. M-1, Carbine the "Big .22". My '98 Mauser based 30.06 is "Fritz". My friends call my Mini-14 the "Machinegun". Most of my other guns don't have names......yet.

Forty Rod

A friend of my dad named Dad's Model 8 Remington .35 "Old Meat In The Pot".  The gun has been mine since about 1970 and I've never renamed it.

The only other things I've had that were named were my M-151 in 'Nam was "Stinger" and my '70 1/2 Firebird Formula 400 was "Iron Mistress". (My wife named the car because I spent too much time and money on it.)

My second M-113 ACAV was known as "Kodak" because it had "Open me first" stenciled on the side. My first two M-551 were "Canister Kitchen". My third one was known as "Mine Blower" as that's what I seemed to do with them. Of course the default name for all of the M-551's was "Death trap".
