Here's my July 4th weekend project coming to an end....with only a few days more of letting the finish oil cure (i.e. soak up oil).

Newly restored 'Prospector's Pistol', made by ASM circa 1985 and sold by CVA (Connecticut Valley Arms).  Otherwise known as a 'Tingle Pistol' after the name of it's original creator.  Tingle appears to have designed his pistol based on elements of both the Remington 1858 and the Colt percussion designs, as it is a well executed blend of both designs.

This poor gun was coated in rust and after sitting on the workbench for a few months soaking in WD40 wrapped rags, it was finally ready for a complete disassembly, stripping and restoration/refinishing over the July 4th holiday weekend (starting Thursday)....including a midnight charcoal bluing on July 4th.  Yup, that's right...how 'patriotic', eh?  LOL!

Pictured with an original late 1800's or early 1900's California style holster.

(Oh, caliber .451 - .454 roundball, 8.5" barrel, walnut stocks (nicely naturally aged), factory engraved scenes on both sides of frame).

And the requisite in-the-holster photo.
