Hi Y'all,

Does anybody who has a Hartford Armory 1875 have any suggestions on getting the dad-burn cylinder pin out?  It doesn't have a cross pin like the Ubertis, but a little tab on the cylinder pin out near the muzzle.  I've torn up my thumb nails trying to get it out.  There's a scratch on the barrel from the previous owner I'd bet dollars-to-donuts was caused by the same frustrations.

Thanks,

PS:  Nevermind.  I finally got it.  There's a trick to it. -- Digger

I've never handled one before, but maybe you get depress the front catch and with hammer cocked (unloaded) use a small dowel rod to push on the rear of the cylinder pin. That is assuming the pin protrudes through frame like the Uberti '75.

Other than that, how are you enjoying it? They are hard to come by.
Smoke em if ya got em.

It's a cryin' shame that Hartford Armory closed its doors on such a fine piece. According to John Taffin, this gun could eat up those +P hunting loads! On top of all that, it was the first time since the 1890's that the Remington 1875 had been built in the states by Americans. If they were readily available today I would definately have bought these guns when the funds became available.

But that seems to be wishful thinking anymore. :'(
A work in progress.

Hi Y'all,

Honestly, I haven't had it very long, and been too distracted with other projects to shoot it yet.  I'm not much on .44 mag and haven't been able to find any .44 special, so that automatically makes it a when I get around to it deal.  Looks like I'm going to have to make some .44 spcl.  I waited a year for one to turn up on GunBroker, and jumped on it even though it wasn't the .44-40 I wanted.  Sitting in the living room dry firing at the TV, it feels great, points quick.

Hi Pard

I have two H/A '75s.  Yes, one of the pistol is a dog trying to get that cylinder pin out >:(But the solution is get a wide screw driver and push the little thingy and push the screw driver toward the muzzle.  It works for me, be sure to tape under the pin so that the screw driver might not gouge the brl. :)

Hi Y'all,

What I found worked was hold it upside down between my knees, then lay a 10d finishing nail across that little tab and push down and forward with both hands.  It's already got a scratch on the barrel that has got to be from a previous owner scrapping with it.  I'll get around to touching that up eventually.

A HA sold recently on GunBroker with interchangeable .44 mag/.44-40 cylinders, so now I have a new quest.  Find, or have made a .44-40 cylinder.  The ratchet on the cylinder is a different size from Uberti's .44-40 Remmy. javascript:void(0);
