1st Sgt.

 Gentlemen;

I'd like to know if any of y'all would have a copy of the original manual for the H&R CAVALRY CARBINE (1873 Springfield copy) and or a Schematic of this weapon or know of where one can be obtained. I've had this Carbine for years and now need to take it apart. I know that parts are different from the original and any help will be appreciated.

   Thank You

     1st. Sgt.

This exploded view is of a Pedersoli but whould be very close.

Off the top of my head from my memory of my H&R Officer's model, the screws, the trigger plate, the thumb latch, are different. There may be other parts that are different too, these are just the ones I remember.

If I remember correctly, those rifles came out in the 70s. I sure would like to come across one of those these days for sale.

Not to rub any noses - but I got an Officer's Model that was purchased in 1971 (the Centennial years for H&R were 1871-1971), and put under the bed without being fired.

The owner literally forgot about it completely...

As to the manual - reprints are available - none show any take-down methods.

The only difference is that the breechblock is integral to the receiver - many of the parts were refurbished originals, since they were in abundance when H&R decided on building these weapons.

The stocks on the H&R's are somewhat more slender at the wrist - but not something to be concerned about.

Pedersoli was buying the Officer's Rifles some time back - before they came out with theirs...

I'm sure I won't be lucky enough to find one for a bargain price.

Howdy Pards
I have a H&R Cavalry Carbine that I got from a friend . He didn't like the factory rear sight , so he ordered an original 1879 rear carbine sight . Yes it's a real sweetheart . I got 3 boxes of  carbine loads today plan on smoking up the country side tomorrow .
I hope I get a chance to smoke a ground hog tomorrow  ;D

I have an original H&R catalog listing the Trapdoor rifles they used to offer, I can read it and see if there is any information that might be of use to you. I have no way of scanning the catalog, otherwise I'd send you its entire contents, pictures and all.

Gun Parts Corp. should have the parts diagram for your carbine.

There was one of the Cavalry Models on Gunbroker for $500 today.  Last I saw no one had bid on it yet.

Oops!  I see it sold on the 25th.  Pretty appropriate day for it to sell!

You might try the bulletin board on " www.trapdoorcollector.com ". I remember some discussion about the H & R trapdoors on the board.

TLD:  Are you still looking for a H&R Cavalry Carbine.  I purchased one resently.  It is at 3B having an original 1879 sight installed.

FYI - There are a couple of H & R Officer's Models on Gunbroker right now, at $600 and under.  Just search H & R Trapdoor.
