I know they came with a brass and some casehardend recievers.
But did they come in the blued reciever?
Thinking of getting one  and like the blued.
Wanted a 44 specl. but looks like they don't make it anymore so probably a 44wcf.

Major 2

Yes Sir Blue was available, but rare 44 spcl. is even rarer ...I don't see them offered now....
Only person I know that has one is Long Johns Wolf over in Germany.

You might try to special order for the Blue receiver through Taylor's or perhap Cimarron though...

Doc O

Thanks Magor 2.
I do know a fella that has 2 1860's and at least one if not both are 44 specl.
You probably already know what I want to do, reduce down to 44 russion.
Mostly to get  as close as posable to the 44 rim load.
I'll see if it can be special ordered.

Abilene

Navy Arms has imported blued Hanries, still show it on their website.  I was thinking maybe EMF too but not sure.

I don't think EMF is still a Uberti importer ...Navy Arms is a possibility ( I think they only stopped importing C&B's )

EMF ? ... is out as a Uberti importer ... is my understanding
And Val Forgett III is taking NA in a different direction ...he was to have ceased the C&B line a short while back.

Sounds like Cimmaron and Taylor's is out for the blued frame and no one has the 44 specil.[quit making them about 5 years ago].
So it's Stoeger if I want the blued frame. And thats if Uberti has them in stock. I'll also have to go with the 44-40.

Doc O

Am I wrong in thinking that the 44 russion would simulate the 44 Henry round ?
Please set me straight!  I would like to know.

Don't know if I can set ya  straight, but recently had a Henry conversion from 44WCF to 44 Russian via chamber sleeve by Happy Trails and the carrier  from AJ to accomodate the short russians. I'm loading approx. 18 grs of FF Blackpowder with a big lube 170 gr. and a 200 gr. rnfp bullet. Hits 100 yrd steel targets OK. The 44 Special is more like the powder charge of the original 44 Rim fire.

You could get REAL close and rechamber a .45 to 44 Colt Heel Base.
Shoots like a dream and allows me to shoot the same ammo iin original pistols.

You'll be shy about approx. 6 to 8 gr. BP using the .44 Russian case. A modern .44 Russian case holds approx. 19 to 20 gr. BP whereas the original .44 rimfire held 26 to 28 gr. BP. I just load my 44-40 with 28 gr. BP and a 0.135 thick 0.430 Circle Fly Wad topped by a 200 gr. "Big Lube" bullet. Duplicates the original round to a "T" except for EXACT bullet diameter.

The closest may be the 45 Schofield.

In my surmise the cheapest way to get close to the Henry round is to go with the .45 colt option and just shoot the 45 special with a new Smith Shop carrier. The orginal was a heeled bullet type yes, but if you don't want to sleeve the chamber and you can shoot 45 colts or 45 Schofield  anytime you want to just get a 45 Henry. The 45 Special is closer in length to the original (the original case = .88, 45 sp. = .898, 44 russsian = .97, 45 Schofield=1.109)and just as close in diameter. Original .44 caliber heeled bullet= .44, Russian =.429, 45 special= .451, .011 difference either way. Cheaper and easier IMHO. Both will look just like a 44 Henry flingin' out the top of your rifle if filled with the Holy Black in any case. If you have 45 pistolas 45 Special shoots great in there too! I stripped the bluing off my blued steel Henry and took the finish off the stock- I have alot of people ask me if it's an original, I just smile.  Good Luck, It's a fun ride, BB

I can certainly agree that the cheapest way to go will be the 45 Colt caliber with the simple change of the now available short carriers. However I already had a Henry 44WCF rifle that has been extremly accurate and fun to shoot with blackpowder as well as most of my revolvers in 44 Special or 44 Mag. So with the 44 Russian, I can now shoot with my pistola's & rifle with 16 rounds like the original Henry's just makes me a happy camper. 8)

Ordered the Blued reciever, 44-40 today. ;D  So know I need to get the loading parts together.
This will be another caliber to load for but I really don't mind.
I've read several threads on loading the 44-40.
Shouldn't be any problem as long as I take my time at first untill I get used to the bottel neck.
I like the sounds of your load FCK. Thanks

BTW. I know I should slug the barrel before getting a sizer.
But what are some of you sizing your bullets at? I'll be using the Big Lubes.
This gun is imported by Stoger.
The Henrys from Cimarrons [ all Ubertis] bore size at .429 according to there web site, I asume this one would be the same.

Doc

stepnmud

I'm using a LEE sizer die .430 with all my home cast wheel weights. For a Uberti Henry rifle and Uberti Model P revolvers and Rugers Vaquero 44 Magnums.

Major 2

Well Doc ..you could become # 108 on the Henry Shooter Roster...I'll be glad to add you if you wish  :)
