I need some help~~ ???~~ I recently acquired an original 73 saddle ring carbine(1881 mfg.) with a special order 19" barrel~~Was advertised as a 44-40, but will not chamber a 44-40 round~~It is .44 caliber, but which one??~~I have tried .44 Russian, .44 Colt and they wont chamber either~~I tried a .44 S&W American~It chambers, but seems a little sloppy(could be chamber wear?)~~Tried a .44 Henry Rimfire long and it seemed to fit like it should, but the rifle has a centerfire bolt~~Thinking it might be a transition gun from the .44 Henry Rimfire to .44 Centerfire switch~~Have done a chamber casting, but can't find the dimensions for the .44 Henry Centerfire round~~Would appreciate any help that anyone might be able to give me~~Thanks

PS, This cartridge appears to use a stepped or heeled bullet and was originally developed for the last batch of '66 Henry's and discontinued in '73. Recommended for B/P pressures only.
Trouble is...when I'm paid to do a job, I always carry it through. (Angel Eyes, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly)
