Howdy,

Sorry for barging in as I'm not a CAS competitor.  I do compete in sanctioned benchrest rifle matches across the southeast and do a lot of boondock RV'ing.

I came across this coach for sale and instantly thought that y'all might find it interesting.  Looks like its straight out of the Wild, Wild West.

Maybe he thinks we're all high priced people. you need one of these to travel to matches :o ::)..........Buck 8) :-\
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Given how poorly he thinks of us, I guess we should be glad to get the chance to see it at all..
Wonder if there's any more high-priced stuff I can throw my money at.. ;)

dogill

Well  excuzzz me fellers,

Didn't mean to put a burr under your saddles.  Ya'll 'bout friendly as a cornered sidewinder.  :-)

As I mentioned, I shoot benchrest all over the southeast and found it right handy to have a house on wheels, as some of our matches can go 2-3 days or more.  'Course mine is an old 1984 Barth, but well cared for with little money in it, as after paying for the type rifles and ammo we use...ain't much left over for motels and I gave up hard ground tent sleeping awhile ago due to arthritis.

I did come across a Cowboy Action Shooting bunch down in Thibodaux, LA last year and some uv'em was fairly well heeled, especially them thar outta N'orleans.  Seen some on TV too.  Real doctors, lawyers and such, dressed to the hilt and spending like it was going outta style.

I thought about trying your game but looked like ya'll was spending more on equipment and ammo than we were and I damn sure couldn't afford both.  We're just a bunch of old farts with highly accurate 22 longrifles that like to get together, chew the fat, and punch small holes in paper.

A friend emailed me that link and I thought you might get a kick out of it, but I GUESS I WAS WRONG!

I'll be moseying along now.

Remember; Don't squat on yur spurs!  And, if you feel like checking us old fart's game out, go to www.benchrest.com

Big Hext Finnigan

Yeah.. but this is what you said behind our backs..

Holy Cow Dave,
He should be advertising this unit on one of the Cowboy Action Shooting websites. It would sell quickly.

I shoot benchrest rifle competition all over the southeast and have come to know that the Cowboy Action Shooters have very deep pockets and love this sort of thing, spending exceptionally large chunks of gold on on their hobby.

Many of their websites contain a classified section which includes campers.

So you ran across one bunch and some of them were wealthy so all of us "love spending chunks of gold."  I guess you was wrong..

El Peludo

???  Good Grief!!!!  What ever became of manners, and civility??  The man drops by, says howdy, and asks if anybody is interested in what he found, and y'all jump his butt like he was a hound in heat.  Nice!!  Now what do you think he and his pals are going to think of CAS folks????

Mr. Dogill, thanks for thinkin' of us, but apparently this is a bit out of these feller's league.  Don't think too harshly of them, they really are a good decent bunch.  As an aside, I found this motorcoach to be quite interesting and unusual.

As Cheyenne just pointed out, MOST of us don't have much money.  We do like our toys and we'll pay to play, but "large chunks of gold?"  Looks like at least a couple of us found the tone and words insulting.

Maybe it's harsh.. I dunno.  Is it rude to respond curtly to an insult?

Ol Gabe

Ah, shucks, that ain't priced to high at all! We see bigger and more expensive units at the annual NCOWS Nationals whenever the CMSA boys and girls pull in. After all, you start taking your whole family, the dog, all the horses and all the tack in a biiiggg, loooonnngggg pull-behind trailer you gotta have a giant Class A pusher or bigger to take it all in stride! Now those are some big and pricey rigs!
Would I have one? You bet! If I ever found one priced right I'd buy it in a heartbeat, after all, health and comfort are part of our hobbies safety factors and every bit as important as safe reloads and proper firearm handling.
Think about it for a minute fellers, at $75,000 you could lease it out and recoup your expenses in 2-3 years on weddings and political events alone and write off all the maintenance as a business expense on taxes. Hmmm, might just take it up myself!
Best regards and thanks for the tip!

As an aside; The asking price on most of these RV sites is sometimes double what they will actually take, especially after they come off the consignment lot contract.  At $75 grand, the sellers commission is at least 10%.
I've seen prices drop considerably with a little haggling.  Most important consideration is having a qualified mechanic go over all the potentially expensive fix-ups, starting from the tires up.

PS:  That particuliar coach would definitely be the perfect setting for the West's oldest profession.  :-)

Well, I'm a newbie here myself and have to say, I don't think the fella got fair treatment either...But as for me having deep pockets... HA!...they're deep all right...because they ain't nuthin else in them except air...and a hole or two...

And dogill, if I had $75, 000 I don't think I would spend in that...maybe a horse or two...(and geez, some of them seem to run right up there in the same price bracket) or a genuine Colt single action...and I don't even want to think about what the cost of them are!

Iron River Red

Personally,

I want to thank him for sharing the link. I don't have that kind of dough right now, but some day I will be buying me a less fancy rig and can fix it up similar to it without having to rob a train...

Thanks again.

I have split and moved your question about getting started in CAS to this board.

This way, your request for information won't get lost in discussions on what we can afford or not ...  ;D

Well! >:(
What I would like to say and what I will say are going to be 2 different things.
Because if I get on my soapbox the poor Marshal will have to throw me in jail to settle my behind down...
I don't post much.. simply because I don't have time. But when this was pointed out to us, I felt I needed to get my 2 cents in ..for what it is worth.
First..thanks for the post Deputy Dog.  I am and have been all my life a lover of camping. Over 25 years we went from sleeping on the flat ground and gradually worked our way up to a 32 ft Hitchhiker ll with duel slide outs..( and I worked my ever loving ass off to make the payments and get it paid for too.)
I am by no means rich or have lots of extra cash. But I darn sure don't begrudge  those that do have.    People spend their money on different things, and just because some have more than me...well , all I can do is say 'good for them'.   I have no personal problems or self issues with the fact that I can not bark with the big dogs on most levels. I liked seeing the pictures of the coach. And $75,000 probably isn't out of line for it, when you consider the care that it has had..and the heavy wood and all the extra's. It isn't something that I would want, but everyone's tastes run differently.
But to attack this man because he thought maybe some might be interested in it for whatever reason was just plain assed rude.
Someone comes in to Cas City and has a few different ideas and opinions and ya'll jump on him like a pack of coyotes on a fresh killed deer.
Dang ! Lighten up! So he thought there was someone who might be interested in it... So what?!?! Maybe there was.
My point is.....Whether you spend lots on guns, leather, clothes and hotels for your shooting expenses.. or choose another route... that is what makes the mixture of people in this great sport so wonderful. We all can shoot with whatever gear we can afford and have fun and it doesn't matter if you are sleeping in a tent, in a motel room, or a 75,000 motor home.
( Well, I can see The Marshal coming at me ,looking pretty grim..and he is shaking the handcuffs, so I guess I will get my pillow and blanket and head for cell #3. :-\
( Dang.. he should have known I was wild and outspoken before he married me, but it is too late now.)

Thank you kindly Mam for the nice words,
I see there is a rose among the thorns.
No offense to the Marshal, but if we had competitors as pretty and kind as you, I'm sure our benchrest membership would would be more attentive......if not so distracted.

My hat's tipped to you and the gentlemen.

Thanks Marshal,
Sorry about my questions being posted on the wrong forum.....still gett'n familiar with your website here.
I've posted additional questions "over there" but for obvious reason, that page doesn't seem to get much play.  Same thing happens over on our website at "Benchrest.com" 'cause the regulars get tired of answering the same 'ole dumbA questions from newbies.  However, by surfing a little more intently, I think I've uncovered enough intel to smell out the rest of the trail.
Many Thanks,

Well dagnabbit, I didn't get to see the pictures of the coach.  Seems somebody found it admirable and worth whatever they paid for it.  (Maybe someone save it and could share it?)  Sure was shocked at the response some gave Dogill for sharin' the offerin'.  Been shootin' CAS for... let's see, goin on 20 years and have done it all, motels, tent campin', travel trailer, shared motor home, bedroll on the ground, and bedroll in the back of the p/u.  Have always had a good time.  Traveled from TX to CA, and elsewhere for matches with wife, son and 'nough equipment to need a bigger rig.  I've been invited into other's folks' rigs, campers, tents, etc. to see how they enjoy the game.  Have had the good fortune to be invited to enjoy the hospitality of friends' homes, and have opened mine as their base of operations.  Have been in abode fancy and humble, and have appreciated both.  I appreciate those who've shared their quarters that are much fancier than mine for their trust, and those that may have been as humble as mine for their's as well.
Would do it all again.  Thanks to Marshallette Halloway for her concise and on-target comments.  Yep, you can ban me if ya'll want to, but wrong is wrong.
Been a competitor in several disciplines, and return to those that have the friendliest folks (for the most part).  Yep, those are CAS and CMS along with BPCRS.

The Prices for some of those RV's are not too bad. I might just save that one to my Favorites, so that i can take a look whenever I want, to see what kinds of selections are available.
