I order through Powder Inc. or Graf and sons.
There are others.

Ozark Tracker

the people down at Powder Inc are some good folks.  I live about 20 minutes from em.

Try the Diamondback it's only $10/#.  It's relatively new, I've never tried it but I have bought lots of Goex, KIK and even Skirmish from them.   I was kinda sad to see the Skirmish go, I'm still shooting it in FFFg in pistols and Fg in shotgun.  But the Diamondback is probably as good or better knowing how the Folks at Powder Inc. treat people.  For CAS you really don't need anything but the less expensive powders.

Mako, the report I read on the Diamondback is that it is a step below GOEX, but as you stated, most are not going to be shooting 1,000 yd. Creedmoor with it.  ;D ;) This guy has it the cheapest I believe:

Probably be a real good idea to call your fire Marshall's office, first. Some cities don't allow possession, others limit quantities stringently. It's not a real good idea to order twenty-five pounds and then discover that you can only have five pounds on hand. By the same token, the more you buy the less the HazMat fee is per pound so before you order, check around your pards and see if you can parcel out a large order.

Jefro

I buy Grafs house brand most of the time, Schuetzen with thier label. Order 22lbs at a time, the hazmat increases at 23. Use Deer Creek if there is a group buy.

Pony Racer

I used GRAFS until recently.

I now buy from the Winchester VA Sutler - he sells huge lots of powder to the NSSA crowd and has Scheutzen, GOEX and Swiss in good amounts almost all the time.

Saves me the hazmat fee and I end up picking up larger buys for my cowboy shooting friends

All of us up this way use The Maine Powder House - http://www.mainepowderhouse.com/
Usually buy a case of 25# in various configurations but looks like they now sell in 5 & 10# lots also.
$14 a pound for Goex or Schuetzen (my fave) is a good price. :D

Thanks FCK,

I may give this a try as the source is nearby...I've been using KIK for CAS pistol & shotgun cartridges also C&B pistol. Woud you consider Diamondback on-par for these uses as well?

Thanks

I haven't shot any. I read some reports on the Internet a while back. I think it would be good CAS "blasting" powder for its price point. I just don't want to "eat" the big Hazmat fee just for a few cans to try.

FCK,
Everyone wants to do what the "Kid" does, now you've just stalled him out.  He'll be trying to figure that one out for the rest of the year.

I'm probably going to get Diamond Back on my next order.  I was talking to a friend tonight who wants to get back into CAS and he was asking if I had powder I could sell him.  I checked my magazine and was trying to figure out where I could store 25 more pounds to "back fill" what he got.  Not that he would really create a need, but you have to use any excuse to increase your ammo stores...The problem is that I now like Fg for shotgun and I still have a bunch of FFg for my rifle cartriges.  I have been wrestling with ordering 25 pounds of FFFg or getting a mix of FFg and FFFg.  No Fg in Diamondback at this time.

Fg is really cool (and cost effective)in a shotgun, you get some really neat shooting streaks of burning grains.  One of my clubs has a new range site and it is under a heavy tree canopy, the flash and effects are stupendous!  I was thinking about upping my powder in all loadings just for the shear fire effect alone!

Dutch Bill on Diamondback ...
"Diamondback Powder sampled a case to Dixon who has handed it out for shooter testing.  No idea when Diamonback will get a distributor program in operation.  This Diamondback brand black powder is something of a rebirth of Elephant after the old plant was closed and the machinery moved to a new plant under a new owner and management.  Beyond that I'll hold my peace.  If I want thast kind of abuse I'll get the wife a leather whip to go with her leather Indian dress."

John Boy,
That's old info,  ask the Ogre what he has heard about it now.  They now have a distributor, (Powder, Inc.).  Plus the subject at the time was KIK versus Goex wasn't it?  He just tossed that in in his lovable gruff fashion.

I was wondering why he  brought it up at the time since Diamondback had been out since February.  I just held my tongue.  He has issues with some of the manufacturers and distributors which is understanable considering his past.  I think it was more of a commentary on Elephant than anything else.  And you know what he thinks about them...

Try, " www.trackofthewolf.com ". They offer free shipping on 25 pound lots.

A very good source for black powder is Upper Missouri Trading Company.  Their case price is usually the most competitive and they will mix lots.  I have ordered from them for years.  They are good people to deal with.
