Registering IN now... My Grandfather gave me his M1860 Spencer Carbine after my military service in a Calvary Unit. Couldn't be happier.

slower than...

Just ordered a Cimarron 1865 Spencer Carbine in 45 LC from Bud's.  I am hoping it will not suffer from the dreaded cartridge feed/extraction problems.

New member here. Hoping to draw on the expertise of forum members to learn more about my grandfather's Spencer Carbine #38894 and also get advice on the best way to sell some original ammo I have. Anyone interested, I can provide photos, but don't know enough (yet) to say which cartridges I have (although I can tell that I have at least 2 or 3 of the different ammo variants).

My dad just passed along to me the family Spencer Rifle. Although I've seen it all my life, I don't know much about it except a family story. Its not in great condition, nor terrible, but the Serial number is not clear. It appears to be 3766. If there is another digit it would be at the front. The barrel is long and has 6 grooves. What I don't understand is how to tell the difference between the M1860 and M1865, so I don't know if its a civil war piece or not, confirming or debunking the family legend.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this group

Hi there,
Mike McCrae from San Diego, and recent Spencer Carbine owner.
Having recently finished Shelby Foote's 3 book series on the American Civil War, as well as others, I've become fascinated with
the guns of the period. I also own a Colt contract rifled musket, and a Uberti Walker. I would love to shoot the Spencer in the future, but may need some information in order to properly prepare the .50-70 brass. I'll try and resize my pictures in order to post them for you. My Spencer serial number is: model 1860,  # 48651
Best regards to you all, and hopefully I have completed the membership app correctly....
