We had a very good shoot at the Green River Gunslingers today. We were on a two hour delay to let all the bad weather to go through. That worked great and had nice weather for our shoot.

The fifth Saturday of this month will be a shoot (Green River Rangers Company B) under NCOWS rules. We will try to build interest in an NCOWS Club. Every one is welcome. The club is between Bowling Green, KY and Morgantown, KY. Since we are not an NCOWS club yet, you will not be turned away (don't think you would be from any NCOWS posse). We will slowly work you into what you ought to shoot, wear, type of holsters, ect.

John Irons, think you will see some membership and National entries from a few of the IN, TN, KY cowboys that shoot there.

Wish us luck on our undertaking. TJ

Want to invite anyone in the area or anyone coming to the NCOWS National early to our first ever cowboy action shoot by NCOWS rules. It will be the fifth Saturday of this month, the 30 of May. Would be a good warm up shoot for the National. The Green River Rangers Company B will swing into action with a good shoot. We are not an NCOWS posse yet, but hope to build interest and become one. Sign up starts at 9:30am and shoot at 10am after a safety meeting. You may go to www.greenrivergunslingers.com  to get directions. Hope some of you eastern KY and southern IN folks will make it. TJ

Although I am the stage director for the NCOWS National there will be no stages from this years National shot. I have heard it said at other shoots, that the people that set up the shoot had practiced the stages to be shot. This is not the case and never will be in any shoot that I set up.

However you may well see some stages from last years National and later some of the stages than Pancho has written out in Texas. TJ

Texas Jack,

Simply wonderful!
I visited the website. From the few photos, I can see the range is set in a nicely wooded area and props are looking good. Keep us updated.

Mr. Stevens, sure would be nice to have you at The Green River Rangers Company B first shoot. Is there any way you could arrive for the National a few day ahead of time. Say maybe the Friday before. I could maybe arrange a ride from Evansville or Henderson to my house and then on to the shoot. A good practice for the National. Think you would have a good time. TJ

Today was the day. The Green River Rangers Company B had there very first shoot under NCOWS rules. 19 cowboys and cowgirls showed up for a very good time. It was some what of a difficult shoot, no one shot clean.  However one cowboy had only one miss, it wasn't me. We opened with prayer and pledge to our flag. Then Rowdy gave a talk about NCOWS and a safety talk. Out of the 19 we had one working cowgirl. One cowboy from IL. several from IN. one from TN. and the rest from KY. Want to thank Copper Head Red for being the one lady to come and shoot. Also had some that just came and watched. The Rev. Jim Smith and his wife Peggy were there and took pictures for us. You may see a write up by Rowdy with pictures before long. Next shoot will be the fifth Saturday in Aug. Hope there are those from the Johnson County Rangers that will come and shoot with us. SMVS and GLF&M are welcome to come shoot with us too. See you at the NCOWS National in Evansville, IN. Tj

Montana Slim, wish me luck! I will shoot working cowboy at the next Green River Gunslinger's shoot. Nothing special about that. Except I went over to Rowdy's yesterday and he showed me how to load 44/40's black. Yes I will try it at the next shoot. Thought I would only get a small dose the first time out. I've loaded 150 rounds, sure is slow with that lee dipper, lot faster with smokeless on that Dillion. Any way will give it a try. Don't think I am ready for cap and ball revolvers yet. Take care and will give you a report after the second Saturday. Tj

Ottawa Creek Bill

TJ,
Maybe we will be able to get a group from Indiana to caravan down there for the August shoot. For those of us that would like to stay over night, is there a place to set up a small modern tent.

OCB, Yak said he would check, but did not think they would allow it. However he said you all were welcome to camp on his place down by the creek. Tj

Well it's over and I have shot a match using the black stuff. All I can say, it is different. We shoot back in the woods in a hollow and today was a still day. After the first shot I could no longer see the targets and it (the smoke) just hung there. I only missed one shot though, but no speed. Made you realize what shooting was all about in that day and time. I did enjoy it and my whole posse liked it. I'll do it again before long.  Tj  :)

OCB, I have talked to Yak and he has talked to the green River Gun Club. You all are more than welcome to come and camp at the gun club. This is for the NCOWS Aug. 29 shoot. The only requirement, no shooting after the range is closed down. Also Yak has issued a personal invite to you all, come and camp down by the creek on his farm, you are welcome to shoot all you wish.

They would like to know ahead of time how many to exspect. Sure hope you all can make the shoot. WE are trying to introduce NCOWS to the area. Remember we are not an NCOWS posse, but hoping to get enough interest to form one. Tj

Tj,
Me and Russian Annie, my better half, may make it to the August shoot. We're in Nashville. It's exciting to have a potential NCOWS posse relatively nearby!
