OK. So not BRAND new ... but here you go! This is after a cursory cleanup. Lots more to go.

As you can see here, the bobbin cover is pretty crusty, and is likely to drag the leather a bit or snag the thread.

But a bit of elbow-grease fixed that right up! You can still see the pitting in it a bit, but the surface is now smooth as glass everywhere, including the underside.

But I have lots more grime to clean up. As soon as the manual arrives, I'll be able to get it cleaned up, and then set back up, per the set-up instructions in the manual.

That's a great machine, RT. I love those old ones. You'll get a lot of use out of that one. Congrats.

With that long arm, I'd say it was a shoemakers machine?

The 29K was for shoes, tack, etc. I have a 29K51 (pictured) and a 29K60, which has an 18" throat.

RT,
Very nice machines you have scored!! The one that I am looking to buy is newer than that one, look's just like it, but doesn't have the shuttle arm on top, the one I am looking at is a 30-40's model>
thanks for sharing!

I have a 29K60 that was made in 1940. It has the really deep throat, specifically for stitching boot shafts onto the shoe lowers. LOL. The nice part is, that heavier leathers can be stitched with these, and you can sew in any direction by turning the directional wings. LOL.

Now when is that dadgum manual gonna get here.

I've been finishing up a belt for Bruce Camp on here and decided to hand stitch the billet and chapes onto the body though. LOL. I'm tooling three crosses into it (the story is that it was a Mexican's belt, very Catholic in it's influence, hence only three crosses).

Should be fun once I get it finished. So far so good.

Howdy, Pards,
Not sure which models were used (I'd have to go back and look it up in some of the technical documents), but did you know that some of these old Singer machines were actually used to repair/refurbish the 136 ft. dia. main parachute canopies used to recover the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters?  :o  Yep! They used them until they ran out of parts to keep them going, and then, finally bought modern machines.  Those parachutes BTW, are made of nylon ribbons that are about 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick and about 2-inches wide.  They are criss-crossed with gaps between the ribbons so that the amount of air that bleeds through the canopy is the same as a nylon cloth personal parachute, 16 percent!  Scrap pieces of those ribbons made some great automobile tow cables!

It's interesting, but, at least several years ago, heavy duty sewing machines were one of the few industrial machines that don't lose their value...as long as they are functional, that is.

Same with the old Heidelburg letter presses. Once highspeed presses became de rigeur, they simply converted them to embossing or die-cutting machines.

Cool how antiquted isn't all that antiquated sometimes.

Your Singer looks almost identical to my Adler 15-30 (30-15?, cant remember right now), except mine has a crank wheel on the front side, not on the end. Very cool.
Now I just need to set mine up and try it. Ive had it for 3 years or so.

RT,
If by any chance, you would run acrossed, a machine like yours, or the pic you just posted, and you don't want it for your self, please let me know! Mine might work, some people say it won't! I do not have a needle or the proper thread, but I did put a regular singer needle in it no tread, but it put holes in 9oz leather easy, but when i put a bigger needle it might not! I cannot spend a lot on one, because I only sale 2-3 peices a year and never will! There is no money in this area, and there are 4 real good saddle makers in 40 miles, and then you Have David Carrico! So you can see It is only a hobby.
But if you do rn acrossed a machine that you don't want, please let me know!

Hey Ace. If I do, I will. Here's the skinny, though. If your machine punches holes in 9 oz. leather with a standard needle, it will probably do pretty well with most anything you need it to do.

The max for the 29K51 is 3/8 of an inch thick. Yours may very well be the same.

Thanks RT,
I was just going by what a guy told me, it would only do 3-4oz! I called a guy in Canada that makes parts for these old machines, and he said it was a awesome little machine and should do all I want it to do! He said if you learned my machine you could right your name with it??
We Will see!

I should clarify, it wasn't exactly free. I had to drive to Michigan to pick it up. Got the 29K51 and the 29K60. Only one treadle stand though. Grrr. LOL.
