Guys just got my first Rodeo. Do any of you have a pet load using a 255 gr. swc? I can't wait to try her out. I have to be sneaky though my little lady doesn't know about her yet! ;D

curdog

Sorry I forgot, its a .45.

Think we knew that from the 255 gr. bullet weight  ;) What kind of powder are you going to shoot - BP or smokeless?

Skinny Preacher 66418

I'll buy it from you when she finds out... ;D
Smoke em if ya got em.

curdog

I'll be shooting smokeless. I usaully shoot light loads with unique. But I would like to work up a load that would put a deer down at short range. I plan on trying some titegroup and maybe 2400.
Sorry preacher if the rodeo shoots as good as it feels you'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. ;D

Dirty Brass

From what I've read, a stiff (but safe) load of Unique [8.4 gr.] is pretty good, and AA#5 tested out at 960 fps with a max load of 10.2 gr. Still safe in a older 45's, but pushing it I think. I haven't tried these loads - just passing along what I've seen in print....

curdog

Thanks Dirtybrass I wouldn't be shooting the stiff loads much. Just something to carry in deer season. I'm not a magnum guy anymore. I don't know if age has made me smarter or weaker but I don't care for the abuse anymore. I just like like shooting mild fun loads in my guns. I even gave up big rifles for deer hunting. I have 30-30, 32-40 and just picked up a 45-60 which I don't think will have much kick.

Dirty Brass

You'll find that 45/60 a pleasure to shoot with 300 gr. bullets. I love mine.

Congratulation on the Rodeo and the 1876 . They are Great shooters and the rodeo loaded with a 250 grain bullet is tough on Deer  or anything else it hits . Tral Boss works great in the 45 colt , but unique is a classic what can I say .

I've been playing with my Rodeo this weekend since my wife went to her parents. Man is it smooth. It has the best trigger pull of all my revolvers out of the box. I can't wait to get it to the range. I hope it shoots as good. Rowdy I have some trail boss so I plan on loading some rounds with it also.

The Trail Boss works great in your 45 . A 250 grain bullet with what ever load of TB works great . I like my loads to be a little on the heavy side .
