I've been looking for a NS in 38-40 to go with my Remington Model 14 1 2 carbine in the same caliber as part of a Mexican Revolution era rig.  Well, I traded a guy over at the Colt Forum for a 4 1/2 inch barreled NS - here's the artsy-fartsy photo of them both with assorted accoutrements:

I'm waiting on some repro grips so as not to damage the real ones to shoot it.

So what else is on your mind besides hundred-proof women, 'n' ninety-proof whiskey, 'n' fourteen-carat gold?

OCB,

From about 1811 through 1920.  Not continuous but over and over and over and over.  The one reverenced here was in the teens of the 20th Century.  Somewhat contemporary with the Punitive Expedition where Perishing got his nickname!

I was going to reply roughly 1910-1920 so Dr. Bob and I are more or less in agreement.  My dad's mom's family moved into Bisbee and St David Arizona starting in the mid 1890s and my dad's dad's family wandered into southern Arizona from Texas via New Mexico about 1913 and they were always concerned about the violence in Mexico spilling over into the US - sounds familiar don't it?  This was especially true after Villa's raid of Columbus NM in 1916.  Everybody went armed down there during these times and for a number of years after.  My grandfather still carried an old Colt Bisley in his belt for "varmints" well into the 1960s.

So my outfit with a Remington model 14 1/2 carbine - made approximately from 1914-1924 and New Service made from 1898 to 1941?  are within that range.

Thanks Wyatt and Doctor Bob.....that is one part of the old west I've never done much research on.

Wyatt......, Do you have the clothing too? It would be neat to see how your outfit looks.

Howdy Will,

I would imagine here:

They have grips for LOTS of old revolvers and but plates for lots of old shotguns!

Dr Bob is correct about the grips.

Bill - no clothing yet except for a couple of hats with smaller brims and larger ribbons - very fedora-like.  I've been concentrating on weapons.  I don't think clothing will be too different from the late 19th century cowboy stuff?

Dr. Bob

Will,

The Army was wearing the 1902 uniform which was basically the same one that was worn in WWI.
