Howdy Pards,
A friend of mine, gave me this AWESOME Pietta C & B frame and cylinder, I had another old parts gun, that i was going to use the barrel and  the guts :o :o The barrel wouldn't go on the arbor, well i got lucky and bought a barrel that would fit. None of the screws would work, so i got a hold of my friend and ask him if he was using those screws, and he said no, and he sent me everything except the hand &Trigger spring, no big deal, i know that will work :o Nope, i  have seen Bob Munden make wire springs, and a set of my pistols have the wolf springs. My question, i don't have any piano wire, but I do have guitar strings, you think anyone could guess which gauge of string I could use?
I have some thin spring steel that I use to make new hand springs when I have to, but using spring wire would be a lot faster!
I will be great full for any and all help!

The sure fix for the hand spring is to drill the frame and install a Ruger plunger and spring.  As far as the bolt/trigger spring, these are simple to obtain.  Are you saying you can't find one that fits?  Old rule, if someone already makes something it's always cheaper and easier to buy it than to try and cobble up your own.  If you want wire springs, Heine, Lee, and Wolff all make them and they are pretty cheap.  For guns where there is no replacement, I just buy music wire from the local hobby shop and bend them.

Pettifogger,
That is what my question was, what gauge of wire do you use? I have from .009, .011, .016,020,028,034,.042. I just simply want to have a idea of what to gauge to use?
Thanks

The commercial ones are .045.  Don't know what tension a geetar string has.  If you need a stock bolt spring just send me your address and I'll mail you one.  Not worth the effort of making one for a common size.

Pettifogger,
That's the problem! A friend of mine, but this Pietta Pistol for the barrel. This Brass frame pistol is heavely engraved with a engraved chromed cylinder! I had a old parts gun that the frame was junk, when I went to putting things on, nothing fit, the arbor was to big for my barrel,  found a barrel and bought it, then i started to put it toghter, and all the screw were wrong :o So i ask him if he was using the screws, and he said no, and sent them to me, so I get done to putting the bolt/trigger spring and the spring arm for the bolt was to long, and the the trigger spring was to short! So i have some flat spring steel, that I use when a hand spring breaks, so I can make one, it just will take a while! I wish you could send me one, but i cannot tell you what will work!

Well, necessity is the mother of invention.  Good luck on getting it running.  I'm out in the garage mangling a couple of 2nd Gen 51s right now.

Pettifogger,  :)
I hope I get it going! I sure I can go buy one, I just try to make everything i can! That is how they did it in the 1800, if they didn't have a part, they would make it. i just can't understand why all the parts are different, than all the other pietta pistols i have had? ???

thanks
