My New "Toy"

Damn confuser . . . so handy when everything goes right . . . . and when things go WRONG .  #$@%&^  Was just gonna load up a picture of my latest new "toy" to one of my web site pages. The damn program started loading up the entire site instead of just the new picture. I know from expereince that once it has started doing so that canceling will foul up the entire site. So let it go for about an hour and a half ( all very slow on dial up which is all I have available here ). And as feared it was totally screwed up. So had to delete EVERYTHING. And start over. So all there is right now is the newest "toy".

Anyhow . . . here it is . .
"Sheriff's Model '58 Remington" Home made from a very old ( and extremely rough ) Armi San Marco that I got as part of a deal. I got it functioning with a little filing and fiddling. The cylinder would always over index on one chamber. Since I have three ASMarco cylinders and only 17 nipples for them, the chamber that over indexes is the one missing a nipple and it is a 5 shooter.

LATER . . . what was that old '60s saying . . . ? . . Necessity created the "Mothers of Invention" . .    . . . anyhow I created a cylinder retainer clip. Made it out of a bit of soft wire. When a peice of metal appears in the shop that is the thickness of the web on the loading arm I'll make a better one that includes a "web" under the barrel for "looks". A fun project.

Good shootin', . .   :)

Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

That looks good. I like it with the wire retainer. Darn good-lookin' shooter, pard.

Wolfgang, thanks very much for posting those pics. ;)
Just as I was puzzling my miniscule brain capsule for a method of retaining the arbor pin, you came up trumps! :D

Wow, that looks great!

Nice work.

Flint, that looks pretty good, but I cant see how it works, unless it's spring loaded in some way that I cant see?

As we are on conversions, has anyone worked out the ideal powder charge for a given length of (shortened) barrel?

Angel Eyes, The spring is inside. in this version, the spring is horizontal, pushing on the arm coming down from the latch.  I have since simplified it a bit more by putting the spring vertically under the latch, forward, and deleting the arm.

Wolfgang, nice piece ya got there! :) ;) What length is the barrel?

Flint, looks like you've got some worthwhile skills. God only blessed me with a five pound hammer! :D

I have an old Euroarms I paid $40.00 for and I've wanted to cut it down for almost two years now. I'm just to chicken to do it! :-[  :-\

Wolfgang

Flint, . . great design, . . beautiful work.

Angel Eyes, . . . mine's not conversion.  Load 40 grn. & round ball.

Rusty Bore, . . . barrel 3 1/2 inches.

Good shootin . . . all of ya . . . .  :)

I just clamped the end that would be cut off in the bench vise,  chopped it off a little long with a metal cut off wheel on a circular saw.  Rough squared it on the bench grinder.  Then put it in the bench vise padded with leather and vertical.  Filed it square.  Knocked off the edges of the octegon just a bit by turning it as it lightly touched the grinding wheel on the bench grinder.  Use a little grinder on my electric drill to take the burrs off the inside of the muzzle.  Not quite perfectly square, but will do. I've added a machinists square to my next order from Midway.  Go for it.   You'll have fun !  . . .  :)

Flint,,,,thanks for the exploded photo, great job and you obviously have access to engineering facilities that I don't.
I may have to stick with Wolfgang's wire clip, which incidentally, only took me minutes to duplicate, from s/s wire, and actually worked the first time!

Wolfgang,,,I didn't mean cartridge conversion; being a Brit I still have to use B/P, I was thinking more of unburnt powder through the short barrel. Being of Scottish descent I would find this a waste of powder!!

Rusty Bore,,,Gather your courage in both hands, and your hacksaw, and get at it!
