Hey Ace , that is a great looking pair of straps. I really like the aged look of them. They could be right out Packin Iron or a bunkhouse from the 1880s. Keep it up. GB

Howdy Ace,

Way to go Pard! Keep up the good work and please keep us posted.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

knucklehead

good job ace.

next oak leaf you do try using a pear shader on the leaf in the tips of the leaf area.
and add some beveling to the cuts little deeper.

the acorns look way better than my first set of acorns.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!!
Knucklehead, Thanks for the advice, I knew I wasn't beveling deep enough, and I should of done the pear shading! I did get some get stuff to watch, and I am going to watch and watch and watch! And then , I am going to practice, practice, practice some more.
Question: I didn't want to spend the money on a double swivel knife blade, but I like that look on some stuff, I have one of those plastic spacer that you put on your blade, after you made your to cuts, do you want to bevel or set you adjustable creaser and run that thre the lines?
Thanks again for the help nd kind words!!

hmmmm,

if i understand correctly you are making a border cut just inside the outside edge of the project using the spacer that attaches to the swivel knife. so for this reason i would use the beveler.

i have only used my creaser one time and it kinda cut(more like pushed the leather down) a border line for me without using a swivel knife.
it also burnished the edge for me at the same time.

you can make a double line without the double line swivel knife blade. you just need to draw the lines on the leather like the rest of the pattern that you transfer to the leather. you just need to measure 2 times and cut 1 time.

Ace    I Like, great antiqueing, very nice pattern.I only own two pair of spurs but 7 or 8 sets of spur straps. Have a pair of straps I never use an old time cowboy actors grandson, gave them to me,Nudies, thats why I never wear them very often, too good for me to ruin. How comes the 51, Nice Work !     Your friend Jake

Okay, Ace. I need to see those spurs. Something's telling me that they are historic finds (which works even better with your straps). Get the camera out and take another picture, pard.

SGT. Jake, You won't believe it, I was just about all done, and found out i didn'y have the right screw for the bolt/trigger spring, I dug around and found one to work, so I am home free :o I put the spring in that I had, and it is to short :o :o, so next time it warms up I will make a spring and finish it up! It hard for me to believe that everything one it was different? On the down hill side now!!

Santee, I went to a cowtown days festibale, and there was a lady selling all kind of this cast iron stuff made in mexico, and I bought 2 sets, I whis I would of had more money, she sold those to me for $6.00 a pair! If I ever see a set like that again at that price, I am going to spend a lot of file time and sanding, to get rid of the casting marks, and wear a pair!
Thanks for all the kind words!

Ace Lungger
