I was wondering why does leather oxidize? Is it the tanning process?

It's just part of the aging process, it happens to most everything, I know I've done wood pieces, that after time oxidized and would take on a nice mellow look , for me, I like this look and look forward to the process happening, the same thing happens to leather too, the sun will bring it on faster, but it happens even without the sun , it just takes longer,  I'm sure there are other opinions on this, and more pards will share there views.

mostly due to the oils, but as TW said everything oxidzes over time inclduing me - reckon that's why I'm such a crusty old fart!

I like the look, too. I was watching Chuck's dvd and he mentioned a lot of the color we see from old holsters is attributed to oxidation.

I have to agree about the aged look. Nothing looks better than natural mellowing.
