Good job, Knucklehead. Are you going to lace it up or stitch it up?
I hope you'll show us the finished cover when you get it done.

That looks great, Knucklehead. I like the way you put the leaves around and overlapping the cross. Looking forward to the finished product.

thanks for the input. got the idea of the leaves over the cross on leatherworker.net.

yes i plan on lacing it.
just dont like the sound of stitching. think lace will give it the extra WOW factor.

i will show it finished.

going to do a brown color and a antique black color if it works right for me.
will do the antique on scrap leather first

thanks everyone.

i know that i messed up the basket stamp a little. i could not keep it 100% straight.
but it is hard to tell unless you are looking for it.

here is a updated pic.
used fiebrings saddle tan then coated it with bee natural RTC.
after RTC dried for 8 hours i covered it with tandy leathers new eco antique black.
was hoping more black would have stayed in the backgrounded areas, but i like how it turned out.
now i am rereading my book on buckstitching. cause im going to buckstitch this which is another first for me.

Great looking Bible cover Knucklehead. The basket stamping looks fine to me. I'd like to see it in person one of these days. Maybe I'll see you at Tandy, I was out there yesterday (Wednesday)

I haven't tried buckstitching yet either, but I bought the stuff for it. I think it will look great, and I look forward to seeing it.

thanks everyone for all the kind words.

but i goofed on it to the point that i cant hide it.

i decided to put the bible into the cover before i finished stitching it cause i just could not wait any longer.

wow i wished i would have put the leather on the bible a lot sooner. :'(
the cover was 1/2" short to the edge of the book cover. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

boy was i disgusted at myself for not measuring correctly. i did not factor in the thickness of the leather when i measured the book. :'( >:( :-[ :'(

so i tossed it into a corner and did something else for the rest of the day.
the next morning still mad at myself for not measuring correctly, i figured out that i can save my cover mistake by making it into a notebook journal/workbook for a friend that does bible study every wednesday night.
now just need to go find a 3 ring binder that i can make fit in it.

i cut out new leather and this time i wrapped it around the bible before i started tooling it. this time it fits with a little room to spare.
so now i have bout 1/2 of the basket weave stamping done. this time the basket weave stamping will be straighter.

and the laced edge was about 1/16" too close to the book cause it was a real tight fit to the cover into the pocket.

Everything works our in the end. Now you'll have the nicest binder around. I've made a few binders by removing the ring assembly and riveting it into the cover so it's a permanent binder. If you can't find one to slip into it, you'll have a dedicated binder with pockets. ;)

I don't know if it's too late, however ... I have an idea that could save that cover. Find some good latigo-leather hide, and cut out end caps that would extend out the necessary 3/4" to allow for the creep in actually using it.

Cut the pieces, stitch it in, and allow the extra cover to just sit outside of the edge there.

It's an idea anyway.  :)
Just because you CAN ride the hide off a horse, doesn't mean you should.

Howdy Knucklehead,

That is a beautiful cover that you have created! I really like the effect you made with the cross. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Knucklhead,
Did you just take paper and draw that design? It is so Beautifull, I don't have that drawing talent. ::) ???
I wished you luck that your idea works out the way you want it to, keep us up to date on how it comes out!
