A fellow who shot a Spencer carbine at our annual event certainly got 'style' points, as that gun has to be one short step above my Gallagher, which requires capping after withdrawing and inserting a fresh case by hand. Watching him load with a 'speed loader' of his own devising, taking it from his inside frock coat pocket, was a marvel of determination and skill under pressure.

NCOWS is the venue for such guns, but it's a pity that SASS doesn't accommodate them. There must have been thousands of Gallaghers, Smiths, Maynards, Burnsides, etc., in the west post-Civil War.

It's amazing that threads on the wire can lay dormant for 3 1/2 years then someone answers like it was yesterday and it continues.

It is said that at my age, last year is easy but remembering yesterday gets worrisome!  I suspect that if one could find the time to read all of the old posts on here, it would be better than a book.

I've seen several gunfighters use cap and ball revolvers, mostly ROAs. Pretty impressive when they get on a roll.
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!
