Gonna start a new grip project.  I've seen others post projects and thought I'd list mine.

Been looking at all the different materials used to make pistol grips and came across a giraffe bone grip that looks very nice.  So I found a leg bone for sale on ebay, and will post when done.  I've made grips out of moose antler, elk antler, buffalo horn.  Looking forward to trying this new material.

As nice as some of the man made materials are, for me, they just don't have the feel of natural material.

Anyway, I'll keep ya posted on the results.

Looking forward to it.
I like working with bone, just can't find them big enough for grips.

Having recived the bone, I have estimated I can get 6 good pair of grips out of it.  It seems to flake a bit, so I am trying different materials to stabalize and seal the bone.  Boiled Lentseed Oil, beeswax polish.  They seem to polish up very nicely.  I may try some varnish or laquer.

Using a miter and table saw to block out the sections.  Dremel and hand sand to basic shape.  Will post some pics.

But there is deffinitly enough material to work with.

Rifle or shotgun stock..mmmmm....now there is an idea..........A kind of Captian Ahab look.

Roughed out the grips.  Using these first attempts to find the pit falls of forming this type of bone.

Time to fine tune the shape.
