A third model single action in 44-40 with the barrel cut but with classic Merwin Hulbert engraving and perfect mechanics and suction.  There is a little pitting here and there but if it was pristine then I wouldn't have been able to afford it.  It's a honey.

So what else is on your mind besides hundred-proof women, 'n' ninety-proof whiskey, 'n' fourteen-carat gold?

Jubel

Nice one Zip it looks in better condition than any I've see at the shows lately.
Cousin we been ashooten at each other all day! How about we stop for a beer then we kin go home and get our axes. Or just as good, lets forget this whole dang feud, I'm agetten too old for this anyhow!

Is there any place to get parts for these Merwin Hulbert pistols.  Or are you at the mercy of gunshows and parts some one would have for sale?

Terry Wagner might have what you need at this site:

Other than him, it is as you say, gun shows and occasional parts on the auction sites.

Thanks Zip....a fella employee asked me last night if I knew where. I like the others have been slobber'n over your new gun. So I thought I'd ask here

You might check with www.oldwestgunsmith.com , David Chicoine's website as he knows Merwins well,  his book "Gunsmithing Guns of the Old West" has several pages and an exploded diagram of the Merwin parts which might answer at least what you were looking for (it's a Gun Digest book currently in print, I got mine at the local Barnes & Noble.)

Numrich Arms carries a few parts for Hopkins & Allen revolvers, same factory, so maybe you'd get lucky.

Some of the internal parts, Chicoine and others note, are nigh identical to 1870's Smith & Wesson Russian or Schofield ones, so that might be a solution too.

If you watch the gun auction sites you can likely pick up a parts-gun pretty reasonably since the non-working or partly-working ones don't bring much.   ;)

Too bad no one makes a modern steel replica of this gun yet.  I would get one if they made it in 45 COLT.

Nice gun, Zip!!

I have been eyeballing them on Gunbroker like crazy, but they are waay high for me.
I want another 38 pocket to go with the one I have now, but they bring almost 500.

I have never seen one at a gunshow, and only seen 1 at an auction. Luckily, it was a 44 Pocket Army, and I got to hold it. Awesome gun.

As far as modern ones, if the new company ever gets going, they will offer them in 45 Colt.

The good news is that there are parts for Merwin Hulbert revolvers.  The bad news is that they are tucked safely inside other people's guns.  ;)

I finally got my hands on one this last spring.  I'm ashamed to say what I paid for it.   :-[  The price was so low, I actually feared it to be a scam, but the seller was motivated, and didn't really know what he had.  Shoulda been charged with theft.  The last patent date is January 9th, 1883, the serial # is in the low 400's.  Double action 7-shot .32 MH.  Would you believe the pictures don't do the piece justice?

This little item is atoundingly accurate, but the trigger pull is horrendous.  Suffice it to say she won't go off by accident.

Dalton Masterson

Dang, that is a nice looking .32! You are right about the parts being inside others guns. I need to get a bunch of parts for my .38, or else get another one and use mine for parts. Mine has a wonderful trigger pull, but looks like heck. Oh well.

It's almost embarrasing how proud I am of that little gun.  I had a gunsmith friend peel the side plate off of her this fall to give her a good cleaning.  That was an adventure.  What a miracle of engineering and production.

Does anyone here think these guns will ever be made? I have watched this site for over a year and there is little or no progress. It seems to be a one man outfit and his answers to questions would do a politician proud. From a personal point of view it makes no difference as we are not allowed to own these things but I guess that a few guys over there would like to be shooting MH revolvers.

In all honesty, I seriously doubt it.  The intricate fitting and amount of machining involved is an issue.  That costs money, plus the limited customer (fan) base - even though we would be a devout bunch - just isn't big enough.  The modern miracle of CNC maching would take some of the burden away, but these things are so intricate.  The tiny latches and springs, and the manner in which they are timed.

Colt SAA's and related clones have made their name in "Spaghetti Westerns," and the legend of the "Peacemaker."

Smith and Wesson top-break replicas have a smaller following, and it's surprising to me that Uberti began reproducing them.  Although I am grateful for that.  I guess due to the military history buffs in the States.  Also the myriad of cap and ball pistols on the market.  Of which I should get one or two.

I would gladly liquidate my collection to buy several Merwin Hulbert reproductions, but I am suspicious when somebody wants a deposit on a product that does not exsist, to use as "start-up funds" and makes it non-refundable.  :-\ hmmm
