Freeda surprised me with a nice 1911 the other night, so I had to make it a new holster for Wild Bunch matches, and just plain ol' carrying.

I will try to take some woodpile pics later on. I still need to put a top coat on it, and it is still kinda damp from wet molding.

The pistola is a 1943 Remington-Rand frame, and rearsenaled parts, dating clear to 1985. Its a true mix match, but hopefully will shoot alright.

Dalton, that is very nice. We've got a number of guys looking for Wild Bunch holsters, and that sure is a clean design

Thanks for sharing, JD

That's very tastefully done, Dalton. I like the dark color with the floral pattern on a holster with nice, clean lines. Good job on that one. The pistol is nice, too. Has that frame been plated?

Marshall, no the frames not plated. Its a really light gray parkerizing. That or it was stripped of park at one time, and that is the remainder. It was a service gun until the 80s, and then our local law enforcement ended up with it. It sat, got traded off, and bought by my wife.
I have never had a 1911 before, so am still learning the ins and outs of them. I think there were 3 types of 43 Remington Rands, and one of them had a different finish, so maybe this is one of them. I dunno?

Thanks for the kind words gents. I have to say that getting a few carving jobs done, really gives you confidence to do more. I started this rig at 10pm last night, and by 2am (dont ask, good tv, etc) I had it dyed. All the other carvings I did took a day or so to get done.

I had one much like yours...43 Remington Rand Frame, Colt slide & arsenal parts...mine was a kit bash of
parts bought from a 1911 Colletor..parkerized
I bought it for a shooter and it shot like house a fire.

I sold it, when the Wife & I got in the family way....sorry it got  :-[  away,  but that's water under the bridge  :)

That is a fine holster... ;)

Howdy Dalton,

Excellent job! The design of the Holster follows the lines of the gun perfectly. The carving is beautiful. Many thanks for sharing this with us.

Now gents, where did that holster pattern come from? I am sure that most of you have this one!

Beautiful work DM.
I'll bet that pistol shoots just fine.  If not just tune it.  It is like the small block chevy of pistols.

Could it be the pattern is in "How to make holsters book"?

Like the floral work really nice.

I really like the carving, I think the term is, you really got it to POP.

Real nice carving and the color of that holster is very classy DM.  There is nothing like a 1911 it is a class of pistola all by itself.

Thanks for the info, Dalton. I was wondering about that. It's a fine holster for a fine piece.

Johnny D, that is the exact pattern I used. Its a good pattern, although on the next one, I am going to cover some of the trigger, and at least cover the back of the mag release button. It seems to me, to be easy to lose a mag if the button gets bumped.

Here are some wood pile pics with more natural light than my flourescent one.  And for those keeping track of my woodpile, notice the new wood, as the last pile got cut up and put into the burnin pile.

Looks Great, pard! Like the 1911, too.

JD Alan

HI Dalton, thanks for the new pics. I'm going to attempt one of these this week. I owe a CAS pard a whole lot for all he's done for me in the last year. He won't take any $$$ but he needs a holster for his 1911 for the Wild Bunch stages we are adding this year.

Since I've only made one set of holsters I'm still greener than grass doing this. I am assuming you have to dye the holster before sewing the belt flap down. Is that correct? That looks like it would only take a fairly narrow belt, and I know my guy likes a wider belt, say 2 1/2 inches. I guess I could easily modify that by extending the pattern a little.

Once again, thanks for sharing this outstanding holster project, another great inspiration, JD

JD, I dye my holsters before stitching, so I can get all the little pieces that are hidden away, such as under the flap. I used to try to do it after, but it just made a mess, so.....

I made the loop using my regular gun belt for size, so that I can use my regular shooting rig belt, and just swap this holster on. Its 2" or so. There is room to make it wider, if you adjust your pattern a little.
