Howdy Pards,
Today was a wonderfull and very exciting morning! I have said for 6-8 months that I was going to learn to carve ::) ::)
I believe that carving is a hoot!! It keeps your mind very tuned in, and since I didn't know how to anything other than what C.B.'s DVD Set! I have also looked and have read, but I think first hand watching or being instructed!! I very nice man east of me invited me to come over some weekend and he would give me a lesson ;D,  now that was 6 months and I pray the offer is still open, and you will see why when you look at this!
Most of the time i don't like to be laughed at, but this is one of those times, i have to laugh!! I hope you all get a big hoot and makes your evening better!

I think this is really cool, Ace. You're now on your way to more fun than ever. Learning to carve starts with the first one. keep us posted with more of your stuff. Practice, practice, practice. Think how much fun it'll be when you do your first completed project. Thanks for sharing.

Looks great to me. I certainly would not laugh. Believe me, I'm just beginning to learn and I know for sure, you only learn by doing! Keep up the good work.

Yay!!! I have a lot of those Ace, but once you get the hang of it, its an awesome feeling! You did good there on your first one!!

If you have any craftaids, they are a good timesaver to do some practice carving. Just rub the pattern onto the leather, then start carving practice. Saves you some time drawing out the pattern. Save the practice ones for later on when you are carving up the world, and need to remember how you started.

Way to go Ace! Your lookin' good.

As Doctor Bob said "The second one will be easier and better"
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Howdy Pards,
I am very humble, and I thank all of you for the kind words! :) I still don't think that my leather was cased good! And as I stated in another post, I don't think my blade was sharpe! i will be fixing those problems.
We had 3 nice days, and know we are going to 5 cold ones, so I don't think I will get anything started untill it warms up!
I also what to thank you guys for giving me the advice, Dalton, TW has been trying to get me to use those craft aids, and I do have 2 different ones, so I am going to use one of them the next time!
Thanks again!

Howdy Ace. I've never taken a picture of my first carving before now. At the end of my first experience at the Tandy store class, I almost packed it in. I got an idea of how hard this stuff really is.

I share this in hopes of making you feel better. Thanks, JD

JD,
Those are great :o Maybe carving isn't my thing ::) ???
Your first one looks great and your 3-4 are awesome!!
I can't seem to get my leather cased right to carve! We have real hard water here, maybe I should use distilled water??
I would love to take classes, but I can't afford to drive 240 miles round trip for a 2 hr class, plus after driving that far my back is killing me!
Thanks for sharing!

I'll admit 3 & 4 are an improvement over the first one, that flower is a bugger. It was the first time I'd held any of those tools in my hands, and it shows! As others have said, the key is practice practice practice!

I agree with Dr Bob, JD. Good work. I don't have any pictures of my first shot at it, but I recall it wasn't what I'd call quality. Thanks for those, pard.

There won't be any laughing here Ace.  You done good.  You have done the first one now you can know you can do it.  It won't be hard to try the second one now.  I wish there were classes where I live also but I think it would be wasting money for a while.

JD yours are great but you had teacher's help..... :D  It isn't easy yet is it.

If all of us that are new to carving could do a couple hundred pieces we would be amazed at how well we improved.
