Anybody got a spare R-M Hammer?

Folks,

I've been waiting now for over a year for the folks at VTI Gun Parts to ship me a new hammer for my 1851 R-M.  It's not their fault, 'cause they can't get 'em from Uberti.  I'd just like to be able to actually fire this pistol before I'm too old to pull the trigger!

:-\ :) ;)

Anybody got a spare hammer lying around or, better yet, a complete hammer assembly?  If so, please email me at

danielnighteyes01@gmail.com

Regards,

Good day to you Daniel Nighteyes,

I'm getting set to make parts for Colts and clones that will interchange but won't be for a while until the shop is completed BUT in the mean time I'll look around for you and know others will too.

I know this doesn't help you right now, but the search is on!
;)
*Just emailed Cimarron for a stock check... hopefully they have one. I wish I could call from work.

Daniel........I've got three brand new Uberti R/M hammers, complete with firing pins installed. I'll let one go for $80.00 shipped to you.

What happened to the original?  ???

Long story short, the half-cock notch is toast.  The whole front "shield" (for the lack of a better description) is gone, and looks to have been gone when I bought the pistol (it was used).  Unless I pull the trigger VERY hard & fast, the lack of the front "shield" causes the sear to hang on what's left of the half-cock notch.  Not only does the hammer stop, but it imparts a fair "whap!" to my trigger finger.  This also quickly peens what little surface is left, making a bad situation even worse.

I'm glad Bill had one and he is sure a stand up pard!

If, for future reference, you or anyone else gets in this position again.
The hammer can be welded and recut.

I'm the cheapest guy around. I tig, file, stone, harden (with kasenite) and test in an actual pistol for $75.00 plus shipping.
I also tig up the notch in the BP hammers for use with R&D or Kirst cylinders.

I bought six hammers from VTI about a year ago, I got two left now that Daniel has asked for one. These are new, still in the plastic bag.

They obviously don't know that VTI is out.
Great that you had that for Daniel, Bill. Also that you are offering repairs Hoof. I know you both do great metalwork.

Bill,

Just sent you another email, and it was promptly "bounced" back to me.   Here's the message it returned:

Hoofie,

As the old radio commercial says, "I'm fixed for blades" now that Bill has come thru.  I still have a couple of stainless Pietta NMA hammers I want you to reshape, as soon as I can remember to remove them from the pistolas...
