Good luck on that one, RT. It would be really good to have a genuine Meanea.

Well, provided it's in recoverable shape. I fired an email off to Will Ghormley and his comment back was that it might indeed be beyond salvage, but that I could always rebuild new leather around it if that was the case.

So far I'm the high bidder. Now don't ya'll go ramping up my bid. LOL. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Depending on how it looks when it arrives, it may not be so much a restoration, as a rebuild on an original tree. The pics are as follows.

I think I may post a restoration thread on here to document it. I'll have the batteries warmed up in the camera for when it arrives! :)

Congrats RT, that's a real find! I agree, you need to start a restoration thread when you get a chance to work on it. JD

Congratulations!
You should make some patterns off of it while it is apart! I am sure there are a few willing takers on those!

I don't know about putting out a set of patterns for it, as David Carrico actually owns the modernized patterns for this saddle from the rebirth of the F.A. Meanea & Co. shop, and makes saddles based on them for folks. I just don't think that'd be right, plus the fact is, the patterns would be applicable for a saddle tree made 120 years ago to fit horses that were a great deal different than they are now.

I'll document measurements and what not, though, so anyone wanting to see the differences in older trees vs. newer trees can maybe learn something out of that.

Hey Parson, while I sorta have your attention, could you (and anyone else who sees fit to) do me a favor and keep a friend of mine by the name of Jerry Shaw and his wife in your prayers? She's been in and out of the hospital repeatedly and could sure use the consideration, and I'm sure it's wearing increasingly on him and his family as well.

Hoka ya'll!

Ah, yes. I had forgotten that David had those patterns. No that wouldnt be right to do that.
It will be a neat project for you tho!

Well thanks guys, I appreciate that. Unlike some threads on the net, this bunch has morals and values. If I can help, let me know!
