If you use this replica powder and like it, the supply from Goex will be short soon. I was told by a very good source that the new owners of Goex were not going to buy any more of the Pinnacle from APP who makes it for them. The writing was on the wall for sure. APP won a large money award from Hodgdon Powder a few years back and I didn't feel like they would continue to do business with them after they bought Goex. I use the real stuff but thought this would be of help to those that use this powder.

Fairshake - Thanks for the information.  For those that use Pinnacle, be best to stock up now.  I have a few  bcans plastic containers of it but only shoot once in a blue moon.

Curious. Does anyone know about or have used Jim Shockeys Gold? Is that anything similar to Pinnacle? I have never seen the powder in stores around me. Maybe APP will market the Pinnacle on their own.

I bought several cases of Jim Shockley's Gold from APP because they were out of regular APP at the time I bought.  Same basic stuff, the APP guys said there was little or no ballistic difference.  In fact, the salesman said the only big difference was the name because hunters know the name Jim Shockley and will buy it more readily than APP.  (I personally have never heard of him.)  The only difference a couple of years ago was that Jim Shockley's Gold had a slight brown tint to it whereas APP is (was) gray.  However, the last two cases of APP I bought are the same brown color and I can tell absolutely no difference between them.  Buy whatever you can get the best price on.

I believe it was the other way around. Hogdon won the lawsuit.  ???

I've had poor results with the Jim Shockey's in the gun I bought it for - an original P1853 Enfield rifle-musket. I think it is because APP likes to be compressed a bit, and that's rather hard to do with a minie ball (they sort of slide down the barrel and rely on the powder explosion to expand the hollow base into the bore). But if the Jim Shockey's is anything like regular APP, it will probably work great in my .44-40, .45-70, and all-brass 12-gauge reloads.

I'm sad that Hodgdon bought out Goex.  I'm sure that they'll keep the 1912 label, but wonder what all else they're going ta do.  Will it still be "the authentic propellant" or will it now be "the brand that's true".  Not that I care so much about the markings on the can, I just hope they don't mess with the production.

APP may be in trouble now.  If ya like Pinacle it wouldn't hurt ta buy it up.

Thanks for your input pards. I liked Pinnacle. Worked well for CAS, ran through the measure real well and made a good amount of smoke.
I would love to buy more of it, but having too much powder on hand with no bunker isn't wise in my case. I'll just shoot the holy black. In fact I am thinking of trying some of the other brands of real powder and see how I like it. There is always a good excuse to experiment and I love to try things out and see how it works.  :)
