I have a customer that has a Ruger Security Six .357 with a 6" barrel.
He wants a holster that has a little bit of drop to it, so that it will be below his jacket.

My question, what is a comparable pistol to use a pattern from? I have patterns for Colt Pythons, S&W K Frames, etc. , but no Rugers but Vaqueros and Single Sixes.

If he would let me have the gun for an evening I would be able to make a custom pattern, but he doesnt want to be without protection for a night.  :-\

Thanks! DM

Can you trade out a gun for a night or two?

Thought about it, but if he truly does "need" it, I really dont want my gun used and tied up in a situation, if you know what I mean.
If nothing else, if he wants a holster, I suppose he will HAVE to let me have the gun for a night. I know he has other firearms.

My second thought was he must have another gun if he needs one for protection on a nightly basis. I hadn't thought about your gun being involved in an "Incident". That could be really sticky! Good luck

Howdy DM
Have him trace the gun, both on it's side and on it's back. This should give you a good idea if you have
a gun in a like size.
I've done many holsters for internet customers that way and only had one complaint, after I told him to
send it back that the local gun shop that I test fitted it at after it was done said they would buy it I never
heard from him again.

Just to make sure do what Cowboy Wc suggested but the Python and/or the K-Frame are going to be real close dependent on the weight of the barrel......

Dalton,

Chuck is corrrect that the Ruger Security Six will be close to the Smith "K" frame or the Colt Python.  However, keep in mind that the frame on the Ruger is a little larger and "squared off" so you will have to make your pattern slightly larger to accomodate the larger frame area.  Do a web- search on the Security Six and you will see what I am referring too

I do have an outside tracing, but I like to be able to fit the triggerguard opening and the top using the gun.
Thanks WC, Chuck, and Outrider!!!

Dalton,

While serving as an Embassy guard in the Marines, our duty sidearm was either a Ruger Security-Six or a S&W Model 10. We used the same black gear for both (holster and belt). The Ruger will be about the same size as a S&W K frame.

Howdy DM
You might be able to take the holster to a gun shop and check fit before you give it t the customer.
