I recently purchased a Armi Sport Spencer and find the trigger pull to be extremely hard, to the point of hurting the finger before it releases. Anyone else had this problem? any advise on a remedy would be appreciated.

Hi depptr,

I find an easier way to lighten the trigger pull. Place a small thin piece of aluminium (cut from coke can) or thin hard plastic between the trigger spring and the screw that was just below the trigger spring. Try it, if the trigger is still heavy, fold the aluminium or plastic and test the trigger again. I was able to lighten the trigger pull by a third.

Be careful not to put raise the trigger spring too high, if u overdid it, the trigger won't engage any more. If that is the case, cut the thickness of the aluminium back. Hope this help!

Just ran into your question. Got my spencer a couple of months ago and I swear the trigger pull was 30# !!! As lockplate parts from Sharps rifles and Carbines are designed to fit by the inventor, and since I had an original Sharps Rifle Company mainspring, I pulled the useless srpoing that came with the gun and installed the original Sharps spring. 6-7 pounds and very crisp. What a difference!

The other night, I pulled a Sharps repro apart and looked at the springs. They looked identical. I was thinking about ordering an extra Sharps mainspring to try in the Spencer. Where did you get your Sharps spring?

I've never ordered from that particular dealer, but other SSS members have.  Maybe someone will add their opinion.  Another on line dealer is:

and I have purchased from them with no complaints.  Check out their catalog - it's a download type.

I got my mainspring from Dixie Gun Works.  Lock parts except for the tumbler (part with the notches??) are interchangeable. That is also with one minor adjustment. Spencer did that interchangability thing on purpose. Ordnance would have to carry only one set of parts for two different firearms. I think the barrel threading is the same also.

I started playing around with my mainspring the other day and broke off one of the curved portions. Dang. I ordered another mainspring from Dixie and a mainspring vise from Track of the Wolfe. Hopefully, this new mainspring will relieve some of the heavy trigger pull.

I also ordered a mainspring vice from Dixie as it took me almost 45 minutes to get the replacement mainspring in place! I have another Sharps mainspring that came out of an original Lawrence Patent Pellet Primer Sharps lock that also has a broken little "tit" on the upper leg of the spring. Works fine! But I replaced it with another original spring. Pretty hard to beat those old original Sharps mainsrpings. Think Dixie still has them but you might have to ask! Those mainspring vices coming from Dixie are made by Pedersoli and are excellently made. And I don't know how I got by all these years without one!
