I am pleased to report that I have arrived in the Territory of New Mexico and can report that all is well.

I inspected Ft Union, and while it requires some minor maintenance, can report that all is well at that location.  I can highly recommend it as a place to visit for those who find themselves in the area.

I and my escort also visited the site of the Battle of Glorietta Pass.  For those who are more familiar with the bigger battles to the East, such as Gettysburg, Antietam, Vicksburg, etc, Glorietta Pass can be a bit of a disappointment but we had an excellent guide who was able to provide us with a good description of the battle at various locations.  I quite enjoyed it.

I'm now at Clovis, on the edge of the Staked Plains.  Hopefully, the Commanche will be remain on their good behavior while I am here.  Fortunately, the telegraph is working so that I may keep in contact with The Barracks.

US Scout,  Sir, Clovis isn't the End of the World, but you can see it from there.

I thought that is what I was seeing, but I wasn't sure.  But I can't complain too much as I'm out of DC for a week!

I was first here when I was about 3 or 4.  All I remember is an encounter with a big rattler.

General Sir,  If you happen to be looking east from Clovis, that's not the end of the world you see, it is the beginning and it is lovingly called Texas or The Republic.  Now, if you happen to be looking a ways west (Arizona) that may be as close to Hell as you care to get. I  spent many a day in Yuma which, by the way, is not a long distance call away from the afore mentioned location.
Truthfully, I really enjoyed YPG along with 140 degree desert temps, sidewinders, scorpions, sandstorms, nasty gunnys (yeah, we allowed them on post, especially if they brought something interesting to play with) and of course the Post Commander Gen. George A. Custer III. Ah, 1970, it was very good year.
