Got the '61 yesterday from Midway it's from Taylor's.
Took it out tonight, shoots geat, alittle high but that OK.
Will need alittle stoning on some of the inereds, feel gritty on trigger pull even after cleaning.
Used paper cartridges, remington #10 caps, .380 balls.
Only problem was the caps. Even though I would pinch them I still had problems.

I quess I need the Tresso nipples right?

Years ago I was buying cheap Italian caps and they would run smaller then others.
Would like to find them again.
I can see another '61 real soon.

Correct.  It'll save lots of aggravation later.

I've got a pair of Taylor/Uberti '61s also.  They required a little cleaning up of the innards.  Especially the hand spring channels.  They were rough and had burrs around the hole where the grip screw was drilled through.  A little judicious filing and stoning, and they're pretty slick.  Mine managed to hit POA at 15 yds with 24 gr fffg, wad, and .380 rb.

This one shoots about 4" high at 15 yrds w/15 grs. 3f.
This one is the London or the Military model.
I may get the civilian for the next one.
Think I'll make a call for another tomorrow.

Pinching caps is a band-aid to hide a cap fitment problem.  Think about it.  The nipple is round.  The cap is supposed to be round.  When you pinch a cap it becomes oval.  It only touches part of the nipple and leaves you wide open to a chain fire or the loose cap will back off or fall off during recoil.  Properly fitting caps and nipples will eliminate 90%+ of all cap and ball problems.

I love the looks of Uberti's 61 navy. I just wish they would make a conversion on it like they do the 51 navy. Those antique conversions look so good.

The same conversion cylinders that fit the 51 Navy fit the 61 Navy.  Same gun except for the barrel.

I think he meant he wanted to see a '61 R-M conversion.

I'd like to see a '61 RM conversion myself - I'd definitely have me a pair of em.

Seth. Like the looks of the '61 R&M's
Did you do them your self or have them done?
Whats the load your shooting in them?
I did order another so I've got a pair. This one is the civilian model, my try to change it to the military to match the one I just got.
I like the feel of these a bit better then the '72s I had awhile back.

Hawkeye,
You really threw me.  I saw the heading "The '61 is here," and then I see this picture of an R&M Army... Did a double take.

Good looking pistol, enjoy.

The second one came today.
This one from BA [cimarron].
Cleaned it up, removed the sharp edges, smooth it up, and replaced the nipples with Tressos.
The base pin is just a bit short, not a big deal. I've done a quick fix for now.
I'll take it out in the morning. If it shoots as good as the other, these will make a great pair for this summer.
A new pair of Slim Jims and  ;D ;D.
