Two Flints

Hello SSS,

I received the photos appearing below from SSS member, Herbert, by "snail-mail" from NSW, Australia.  I scanned his photos, and he has given me permission to post them along with information about each photo  ;D ;D    Two Flints

Photo #1 shows an Evans New Model Sporting Rifle with a perfect bore. I am in the process of working up an accurate load for it.

Photo #2 shows a home-made Spencer cut-off made so ejected cases don't hit the frame. I thought while I was at it, I might as well add the cut-off device.

Photo #3 shows James Standish Buckland's personal firearms, when he was a Mounted Police Sergeant in the goldfields of N.S.W. Australia, same as Canadian Mounties. Firearms shown are a Spencer Burnside 56-50 carbine with stabler cut-off; a cased 3rd model double trigger 54 cal bore percussion revolver, and a Remington New Model Pocket Revolver, 3rd Type, 31 cal. Buckland used these in the late 1860s to mid 1870s.

Photo #4 shows a combination Beach Sight at the front of a 44 Russian Spencer with target barrel.

Photo #5 shows a 3rd Model Double Trigger Tranter, cased with some tools missing.

Photo #6 shows (fron top to bottom) a new 56-50 Spencer Army rifle, a 44 Russian Carbine that I re-barreled and installed a Tang Sight and Beach Front Sight to, and an original 56-50 Burnside Spencer.

Photo #7 shows a Tang Mounting Plate and Tang Sight.
