I want to replace the blade sight on my shilo to an appature sight. what size is the dovetail? does anyone have one they would part with. A standard 3/8 dovetail is too small.     jt

I beleive they are .450'', thats what I remember and I held a caliper up to mine and thats what
it looked like. Now is the time to consider a spirit level in your front sight if you're going to shoot
longer distances.

Call or email Shiloh to find out for sure, but I was under the impression that they used 3/8 dovetail. My C Sharps uses a .430 dovetail.
How much to big is the dovetail? Is it something like needing to peen the top of the dovetails or stake the bottom?

I would guess 1/16  or so too small. I will email shilo. Would like to find a used one. Don't need a spirit level. Usually only shoot 200-400 Yds.

The Lyman 17 is a good one, and I have used it to 1000 yds with good effect, and they're cheap.
A more expensive but larger version that I like quite well is Lee Shavers . It's like a lyman only bigger, I believe you can get it with or with out the spirit level, but the way they mount that level inside the globe is sure nice. Plus those levels will really help out for getting longer range accuracy. Check with Buffalo Arms Co for prices on those, they might even be able to tell you which dovetail for the Shiloh.

Late model Shilohs are .451 I have bought 2. As stated above the Lee Shaver versions are a good buy
and a good sight. The 2 I bought are those. I got mine from Buffalo Arms

The only down side to the Shiloh fron tglobe is the flimsy sheet metal tab that holds the apertures in place. It is always getting snagged on something. The Lyman 17A is a better FS IMO.

Trap

For the money I'd much rather have the Lyman but can' find one anywhere that has the .450 dovetail. Let me know if anyone knows where to look.

French Jack

Trap, I can recommend the Lee Shaver sight.  Buffalo Arms has them in stock, and he also had a website.

Fox Creek Kid

His website is crashed right now, but here's his ph# (417) 682-3330. He's in Lamar, MO. He's a preacher Trap so watch your language.  ;)

Trap, if you call him, you might ask if he will make one without the spirit level, with the wide base.  At one time I believe he did.
