My cylinder was on my steps when I got home on friday. Its a non gated drop in and its going on a pietta 1851 navy in .44. Like all parts that say drop in it doesnt drop in. When I try to slip it on the arbor/base pin it goes on 1/2 inch and then starts to bind. I can slip the back plate and cylinder on separately and have no binding. I think the base pin holes are not on center between the 2 parts. When I get the cylinder on it indexes fine but it will only rotate for 3 chambers then on the 4th it wont turn at all. I cant even get the the hammer back. Im home sick today so I have time to mess with stuff. Any tips for fitting this thing. I dont want to pay $15 plus $40 shipping for R&D to fit it for me.

The only thing that makes sense is the index pin must be mis-located.  Feel the edges of the joint with the cylinder and backplate assembled, see if you can feel an off center situation near the index pin and across from it.  Perhaps a rap on the edge of the backplate where you might feel the edge is above the cylinder surface might recenter the arbor holes.

Or send it back.

Thanks for the reply Flint. I looked and there is a small overhang but its nothing to big. I did notice that the finish on the back plate is thinning out from rubbing on something. Its inbetween 2 firing pins and its the same spot where the cylinder binds up.  I think its rubbing on the ring on the frame that covers the ratchet teath.  I think Ill try to exchange it and if that one doesnt work Ill send the gun in.
