For those of you that expressed interest in the upcoming release of Uberti's Colt Burgess, I have the new Taylor's dealer price list for 2009.  In it is listed the Burgess in both rifle, short rifle, and carbine length.  It's listed as only being offered in .45 cal.  That to me is very disappointing.  Just flat took the wind out of my sail.  Oh well, one less temptation.  It's a beauty, but not the right caliber. IMHO  Hopefullly they will tool up for 44-40 later once they get into full production.

.45  ???  That is very disappointing, in fact its just plain dumb.  Too bad.

Supply and demand I guess, and the almighty dollar.  I'm sure sure Uberti is thinking they can sell more of them due to the popularity of the caliber.  The heck with the historically correct caliber!  Pity.  44-40 has gotten SO much bad press that  cowboy shooters and manufactures seem too shy away from it.  Again, pity.  This again adds to my frustration, as if I was not frustrated  enough with Ruger not considering 44-40 for their NMV.  I hope the manufactures are reading this.

From the picture of the Uberti Burgess, it seems to me that from the end of the receiver to the barrel tip, it is identical to '66-'73 rifle.  So swapping out to 44-40 barrel and tube would be simply enough.  Not sure about what would be required inside the locks.

Don't be disappointed...hold on  ;)

when the Type II Richard was first announced  it too was only to be 45Colt..but before it even hit our Shores
there was 44 & 38 Cal. offered...

My guess is the 44/40 is in the wings....maybe even 38/40

Taylor's dealer price list has the rifle  going for $1090, and the carbine for $1060.  Maybe another 100 bucks or so for retail.  Ouch!  How's that for sticker shock!

pretty much the same money for a 73 or a 76. ;)  I "hear" that the 45 LC is first out of the blocks to be followed by the 38spl. :D  Wish someone would come up with a pic of this beast!

Here is the best coverage to date.   http://www.gunblast.com/SHOT_2009_1.htm

Thanks Abilene!  Very nice looking little rifle.  Reciever top looks a bit like the Colts Lightning.   Hope your correct about the 44-40.

Love that 76 carbine! :)

Uberti's new NWMP '76 is very nice.... makes what (then) Charter Arms/Chaparral showed at the 07 Shot Show look like a hack job & pallet lumber... ::)

I knew the 1876 carbine would come, I figured uberti puposely waited to create two profit waves knowing everyone wanted a carbine. I'm buying the first one I see funds or not. Maybe thats whats happening with the burgess in 44-40.

Hello All,I have Lurked Here for along time waiting until I can scrape the $$$ together for a '76. It is a real pleasure to see what You Guys have done with these big rifles. now I read about the Colt-Burgess and I am fascinated by it. I can't find hardly any information about it and am wondering if any of the firearms "gunsmith" books have detail about the action. Anyone have any detailed information about them? or ever owned one?. Thank You.Jim.

Somebody back East Say's "WHY DON'T THEY WRITE"??? :).I guess the C-B is top secret.

If you can find it, there is a good book called "Lever Action Magazine Rifles" by Sam Maxwell.   It has excellent photos and details of many oddball lever guns including the CB.  I bought my copy 20 years ago. Maybe look on ebay.

.45Colt, there was a guy on the SASS Wire who owns an original and he posted a webpage showing the action after removing it from the rifle.  Interesting: Burgess innards

Don't recall the guys handle, I just bookmarked that site and the page doesn't have his alias.

Sweetwater Jack

Guys, I've just received a call from Taylors telling me that the Colt Burgess I ordered a couple of months ago should be shipped within a week,  25 1/2" barrel, in .44-40.  It'll probably arrive while I'm at the SASS Convention.

I'll keep you posted on its "shootability" when I get back....

I could be talked into one of those, in 44-40. It would be the perfect companion to my Whitney-Kennedys (also a Burgess design) in 44-40 and 45-60. Time to wait, watch and save.
