Was it really a 1863 Pocket or was it a Police?

Nice pic ;D

I have an original pocket and that gun, in his belt is NOT A POCKET!
The pocket is itty bitty. That pistol is a Police 5 shot 36 (or 38 converted and not factory converted).

It would be sweet if one of the gun makers copied the police. I'd by one in a heart beat. Uberti is making a that 2/3 size colt copy in .38 and selling good. I'd rather have a copy of an original. It'd make a good .38 conversion also.

I thought Pietta made a Police!

I know they make a .36 Navy remmie but it seems to be the same size as the New Army, just in .36 cal. And they make the pocket. But I haven't seen a copy of the 5 shot .36 police like in the picture in his belt. I could be wrong. I tries to go to their site, but it was taking forever to load up.

I believe the Pietta 36 is the same frame as the Army. Barr is Navy length (6.5 inches).
I think the Uberti 36 has a smaller frame than the Uberti Army and the shorter barrel.

No one makes a "Police" or a 5 shot repro.

I am working on a Euroarms to emulate a Police but it will be six shot.

HH;  I'd love to see a repro of the Remington "BELT PISTOL".  6 shot, cal. .36., six inch barrel/  A bit smaller than the navy, and made in single and double action form and with conversion cylinders available.

How about just the single action type.

see; page 38, fig 13, of Rosa's book AGE OF THE GUNFIGHTER.

Correct me if I am wrong. Are the trigger/hand screws inserted from the right side of the frame, on the Police, instead of the left as is all other Remington revolvers of this era?

An article, "The 4 Guns of Josey Wales" in my Spring 2007 issue of Guns of the Old West says the gun in quesion was three different guns at different times in the movie - a cut-down Colt 1860 Army, a Pocket Navy, and a .38 Colt Pocket conversion. It's a great gun movie with lots of close-ups. He pulls a Richards-Mason 1860 Army conversion out of the fire, and Richards or Richards-Masons show up in a lot of people's hands in the movie. He had pistols in his belt (1860 Army), and belt holsters (1847 Colt Walkers), two pommel holsters on his horse (probably Walkers but never saw him pull one), a 1874 Sharps with scope on his horse. Doesn't matter that some of the guns weren't actually available in the timeframe of the movie. And some of the guns change from percussion to cartridge between different scenes. Great movie -- watched it again last night.

I have the Spring 06 with the info in it! Best info yet. Forget where I got the pic. Did I scan it? I'll have to check! One think about getting older. I know I was always better than I am now!
