Have any of you bought or seen the high grade "AA or better" wood for the Chaparrals?  Mine has straight grain walnut(?) and i wouldn't mind upping the stock.

Let me know

Thanks

I contacted Chaparral last week about this wood and apparently they are all out of it and do not expect to get more.  However they gave me the name of the outfit who made it and suggested I contact them directly.  I did so and they confirmed to me that they could and would make Chaparral stocks to order as they had the pattern.  As I recall, they had three grades of American black walnut to choose from-- straight grain to extra fancy.  They were called Silver Hill and were very friendly and helpful on the phone.  Their link is as follows:

May I presume that the dimensions would be slightly different for an Uberti 1876?

Does anyone know if the dimensions of the wood for a Chappy would be different than those for the Uberti's?

A year and a half ago, I refinished the wood on a Uberti 1876 for a friend and while I had the wood, I checked it against my Chaparral 1876.  As I recall, it did not fit too well on the Chaparral.  That is not to say that it could not be made to fit with some work-- I just don't remember for sure.  I do remember that the Uberti buttstock did not have the lug on the front to fit into the socket on the receiver like the Chaparral or an original 1876.  Other than that I really do not remember the details, except to say that the Uberti wood would require fitting work to go on the Chaparral... and probably vice versa.  Hope that helps.
