I've seen a similar contraption mass produced by powder inc.  In the October issue of the SASS Cowboy Chronicle, Capt. Baylor had a whole article on shooting c&b with the ROA or any other C&B for that matter.  Really got me hooked and that's actually why I'm buying the Remingtons now, I was always a fan, but I was intimidated until he literally showed it's just like my Harper's Ferry Caplock, but with six smaller barrels!

really has me thinking about it, for 100 bucks or so I get the pistol holder and the cylinder loader.  Not bad, considering how easy it is to accidentally drop one of these when loading the traditional way, especially when you have butterfingers (like me) and your last name is Murphy (like me!)

I purchased one of Dick Dasterdly's stands. I like it!!! I searched the net and came up with nutin! A pard over on the Wire directed me to DD's stand on his site. Sometimes the link works, sometimes it dont!

i don't use or have a range box. i like to not only shoot the replica firearms but carry with me what the period shooter would carry. for my c/b pistols i carry combustable cartridges a capper and a nipple wrench. thats what they carried and so do i. for my cartridges pistols and rifles, just ammo, b.p.  in period boxes or my cart belt. a period combo tool, a rag, and thats it. if the rifle had a buttstock compartment for a rod i carry one. i started doing this when i started to make the correct period ammo. i found that going to shoot is much easier this way. if you have problems you learn to correct them and thereby removing the need to carry a lot of stuff that you wouldn't have in the field during the period that your weapon is from. my friends seem to carry there complet shop with them, and seem to all ways need something else that they left home. after afew times of not being able to shoot, i learned what i needed and what was just in the way. try it some time. it adds to the historical aspect of our  hobby kurt250

What do you carry to the gun range for a day of practice?

just what i listed. its suprising if you refine what you carry to the lest amount how easy it can be. i do carry a spray bottle of superclean to spray down my guns before i head home( i live only 1 1/2 mile from a thousand yard range) i also carry a plastic jug with a 50/ 50 mix of water and superclaen to soak my black powder cartridges in . thats about it.i beleave in keeping cowboy shooting as realistic as possable. i have used just cold water and patch and  rod to clean my guns in the field. i have a original small oil tin i refill with oil to lude everything up when done cleaning. i would clean them better when i got home afterwards. when you use your guns in a tough place you really learn what the cowboys had to put up with. kurt250

you definitely sound like an NCOWS kind of guy!
I was thinking the same thing, I really don't like the guncarts, and just to ease loading I'd have that C&B loader (which someone "could" have come up with...maybe! LOL and the pistol holder... again maybe!) in the back of my truck and use them on the tailgate or if required at the loading/unloading stations.

Basically here's my idea for kit:
holsters for the revolvers
slings and scabbards for my shotty and rifle
pouches and nick-nacks for both on my belt and bandoleer!

I figure everything I needed in a SpecOps environment was carried on me via pack or load bearing vest, so, why no cowboys too!  although they did have a horse to hold extras...

When I first started, I loaded my gunbelt loops and slung the longguns.  Then I needed enough ammo for at least three stages, 'cause I can't get back to my pack animal or buckboard until the next meal break.  Then I have to deal with empty cases and cleaning equipment.  Pretty soon my European style gunbag was full.  So, I got a pair of modern sized saddlebags, they got full.

Now try to festoon yourself with bags & belts & guns and walk that 10 minute hike to the next stage.  So it wasn't really 10 minutes, but it felt like an hour!

I gave up and made a cart out of a thrift store golf cart.

Anyhow, I was referring to a range box for shooting at the range with just the Remingtons

I like to stop by the range after work sometimes and shoot a few rounds from my 1858s. I wanted to see what pards used to haul needed items.

Seems when I want to go on the weekends the whole family wants to go. I end up hauling 6 hand guns, a shotgun and two rifles...lol

I still say take the Golf Cart. You got transportation (soas not to over exercise the beer belly), shade on a hot day, country tunes, a way to go back quickly to get what you forgot, plenty of room in the bed for all the crap that is too heavy to carry, and a soft upholstered seat for the blood hound to sit on!

If its just one revolver or a pair of the same calibre, I can shoot a half day at a steady rate  from the stuffings of a medium sized "Hippy-purse" made into a shooting bag.

Small flattened horn filled with a 1/4 lb of FFFg.  I can add a measuring spout., or;
A measure made from a cartridge case. (.38 Spl  = 22 gr.; cut down .30-30 cases for 30 gr.)
capper & a tin or two of spare caps.
pouch of balls. Or EPP UGGs in a snuff box.
lube in a "glue-stick" tube, usually bore-butter.
screw driver.
NIPPLE WRENCH.
a few patches & a small bottle of moosemilk.
couple of paper towels for hand wiping.

Alternatively, I can make cigarette paper cartridges, wrapped in Aluminum foil in 5s, carried in a cap pouch.  The other stuff, less the ball pouch, horn, & measure, can go in a belt pouch.

PS; I forgot;  You need a nipple wrench as well!

does anyone have a picture of what a person carrying cap and ball pistols would have looked like as far as rig?  like maybe the Civil War Infantry or Cavalry maybe? 

I think it would be total "frontiersman" to have the pistols on a "plain" belt, with a bandoleer with 44-40 rounds, and a couple pouches.

For a "Highwayman", "Opportunist", "Gunslinger" or heck, a Texas Ranger for date between 1865 and 1873 before the center fire was widespread thought the west, I guess a saddlebag carried all that suff huh?
