Each new mold introduced into my inventory sets me back at least $1300.00.  The day may come when "custom" molds will cost less to introduce, but that time isn't here yet.

Howdy.  I just walked in the door from testing Holy Black .45 Schofield rounds in my .45 LC Laramie, and I have to say it was a success!!   ;D  The load consisted of Starline brass, RCBS 230gr "Cav" bullet, cast 20:1 and lubed with SPG over 28gr Goex FFFg, sparked by WLP primers.  I fired 25 rounds in one string without cleaning, and experienced no binding.  All 25 rounds went into a fist-sized group at 25 yards, with point of impact being about five inches higher than my normal load of Unique using the same bullet.  I would have shot it until it locked up, but I only had 25 rounds loaded.  Next time, I will take at least 50 and see how long she goes before she chokes.

The .45 Schofield has a pretty healthy "BOOM" to it....as the two youngsters shooting Spastic Plastic next to me found out.  Pop, pop, pop, BOOM!   "What the HELL was THAT?!?!? <cough, cough>"   ;D

Try shootimng 5 rounds, waiting at least ten minutes, THEN shooting another five, and repeat.  that extra time gives the fouling time to cool and harden a bit, and will give you results that you are more likely to run into at a CAS event.  Hardened fouling will jam up the gun sooner than soft fouling will.

Got em out this weekend and shot 40 rnds....Looks like they'll be ok as long as I oil
the cylinder pin every stage to be sure of no binding up keep in mind mine are not
Ubertis but a pair of early ASM's... I will be using them for the next monthly match
and after if all goes as I think it will.

Schofield-less as of now.
But was shooting a brace in 38 cal [I know not 45] for the last 2 seasons. Everone told me they wouldn't shoot BP, I just smiled.
What I did with them was, polish the base pin, polish inside the cylinder where the pin rides, got rid of all man made oils, lubed the pin well with bore butter, and the big thing was the snake bite bullets  I got from Springfield Slim.
I've got to get another pair. :(

Well, this is an old - but gold - subject.

Dick, your pard, Mr. Heller wrote a great article and you did us all a favour by printing it here.

It just goes to show that ANY gun will work with BP as long as it has the proper lubrication.  And that lubrication ISN'T limited to what goes on the cylinder pin!!

Never-seize, Bore Butter, Pearl-Lube I & II ... WHATEVER.  It just takes good lube ... and PLENTY of it.  I haven't made it into a business like my pard, "Dick Dastardly" Rhody, but I've been saying it since the 1970s.  It's amazing how many want to SKIMP on the lube - then they moan how hard the clean-up is, or how the bullets didn't work right, or  blah, blah, BLAH.  It's just like tools ... Ya don't tear down a race engine with those cheapo 3/8" drive "Home Improvement" sets,  (uh - NOT the type Tim the Toolman talked about  ;) but the $4.95 Snag-brand sets that the drugstore sells .... )

Use enough tool for the job!

I'm off my soapbox, now.

PS - 96 rounds from a Schofield, Mr. Fox Creek Kid?  Good job, pard!

I've had similar success with .44R in my repro Russian, although I usually don't have Dick's great bullets. :( I've had much more trouble with primers than I have with fouling.  I'm looking forward to using Dick's bullets regularly when I can afford the mold - hopefully this spring or summer. :D
